Pool Plumbing question

Hello everyone. While on vacation I had a local pool store come and install PVC plumbing and move my sand filter and pump about 20' from the pool. The skimmer basket line is nice and straight, but the return side comes out of the ground into the return at a 45* angle. Is there a reason for this? I'm thinking it was just pure laziness to not put the return line straight up and down. Before I call to complain, is there a reason this would be installed this way?

Thank you

Judd

What is the base supporting that post? How wide is it? The installer may not have wanted to trench too close to that support to make the pipe vertical. I don’t think the water cares.

I believe the base of the pool wouldn't interfere there at that location, but then again, I may be wrong since the pool was installed in 09'. At first glance, I thought to myself it's not a clean install and looks tacky. I believe they ran it like this so they wouldn't have to dig another tunnel with their trenching machine. I just wanted to know if there was a reason one would angle the pipe this way other than laziness. If I was in better health I certainly would've done the job myself and saved sooo much money. Sometimes I just think quality work is out the window these days. Rarely do you see people take pride in their work.

Thank you.

This does avoid another 90 degree bend in the pipe plus the aforementioned 45 and allows them slightly less digging work to angle it over to the trench used by the skimmer. It should be an easy task to change it to be straight down but I think if I was the installer, I might also have done it this way.
