Pool pad automation/monitoring

Would you recommend me using those other part numbers in the links I attached in my earlier post?
In post #4?

The diverter and check valve are the Jandy equivalent of what Pentair has.

Ok, thank you.

I just read the turnover article and am going to back my pump WAY down.

I’ve been running 60 gpm for 10 hours from 10 pm to 8 am then 50 gpm with the booster pump for 4 hours from 8 am to 12 pm for the vacuum the 5 hours at 35 gpm just basically to run the skimmer from 12-5 pm

I am glad it showed you the light.

My pump runs 24/7 at 1400 RPM, 28 GPM using less than 200 watts except for 2 hours per day when my Polaris cleaner runs at about 40GPM and when my heater runs the pump increases to 2,800 RPM and about 60 GPM.

Brother you just saved me about 500 watts when that pump is running.

Thank you so much. Should really prolong the life of my pump and equipment

I just upgraded an pentair WhisperFlo with a Neptune 2.7 THP. It runs many night hours at 1400 rpm and 2400 rpm some hours early for skimming. There's just no comparison in efficiency and noise. Customer was also questioning about turnover but with different terminology and I said we will talk in a few days. Guess what, seeing was believing to them as the water looks good as ever.

After reading on here, I'm strongly considering adding a SWG this off-season.

Currently have a Pentair VSF pump, FNS+ 60 DE filter and a Jandy Laars Teledyne natural gas heater with a Pentair booster pump if it helps to know this information.

43,560 gallon pool.

Can you guys recommend a SWG for me and any other equipment that will be required in order to convert? I was thinking about adding a PH injector at the same time depending on your guys' recommendation there as well.

Thanks so much,

Donnie

Based on the volume of your pool, your choices will be limited. Based on a strong reputation here, a decent warranty, and good customer service, most would recommend the CircuPool RJ60 Plus. Click the link below and take advantage of the $10 upgrade.

You'll need some type of a timer to switch the device on and off, within the pump's scheduled run times.

Thank you. Only asking because I was looking on google at the Pentair IC60...says up to 60K gallons...you guys have any opinions on that one vs the link above?

Thanks again!

Donnie, if you ever intend to get Pentair automation since you have a Pentair VS pump then get the Intellichlor system with the IC60.

The only downside with the IntelliChlor system without automation is the % output can only be adjusted in 20% increments. That is not a big problem with your size pool. You can work around that. I had an Intellichlor without Pentair automation for a few years until I installed my IntelliCenter.

Allen has you covered on this. Pentair is fantastic if you have a matching automation system. However, Pentair penalizes you for doing a self- installation. Compared the two warranties. For a standalone unit, CircuPool is the better value.

Thank you guys. I do intend to go automated in the future but it'll probably be a year or two. It'll likely be a $10,000 update for me at that time as I'd prefer to swap to a cartridge filter, automated control, auto PH and depending on how the heater does (about 15 year old unit) potentially change that out while doing everything else to that JXI unit with the easy access to internals and built in bypass.

Our pool has a main drain and I'd like to close it off in the next year or so when doing some other upgrades but in the mean time...would I be better off to close valve where it ties into the other 2 skimmer pipes in the pump house?

My thinking is that it will provide more suction at the skimmers and reduce the chances of anyone ever getting stuck down there at the drain??

Thank you kindly,

Donnie

With a variable speed pump, most of us run with main drain close 95% or more. This forces more flow to skimmers and honestly, the main drain does very little. I do open my main drain line in Fall and Spring when leaves are falling, however.

Thank you guys. I do intend to go automated in the future but it'll probably be a year or two.

Then get the IC60. It will likely last you 5 to 7 years if you are lucky.
