Pool opening 2024

I have a question for u nice people. I made a homemade solar cover reel. Its not that hard to do just cumbersome. I will attach 2 pics. I roll up the cover on the rod and reverse it to take it off. Works but cumbersome as mentioned . I think they make roll up reel for an above ground pool that CLIPS on to the top of the pool rim. Does anyone know about these or can recommend. I think i saw it on a pool store book for like $150?? Any suggestions. Below are the pics of the rod and of the rod with the solar cover wrapped around it. I will be asking a different question later. Thank u all

They definitely work well. I'm not sure I like the discount supplier one though from the magazine. (Intheswim?) If it's chintzy it will sag quickly and then they're harder to roll/unroll. Then again, if you get a couple years out of it and it's dirt cheap....... :ROFLMAO:

Hang tight to see if anyone has one they like.

I am also thinking of truly heating the pool MAYBE. Is a heat pump worth the cost or does anyone know a less expensive place to purchase one. And who installs it?? A plumber???? And lastly my wife mentioned solar panels on my garage roof!HUH?? We probably would only need like 2-3 panels where u c my garage. Not too far from pool. How would that work?? In the LONG run what might be better or less expensive. The heat pump or the solar?? And lastly. We used to have a gas heater many years ago but because my chemicals were do crazy it kept destroying the heating rods inside the heater corroding them and making me spend lots to repair and of course to run. With a heat pump is that still the case as well. Does a chemically unbalanced pool destroy a heat pump. What i am trying to say is do they break down like my gas heater did. And about solar. Do i ask a solar company or a pool company?? Need to learn this really important

No its Leslies pool supply. But i think the cost is more. The pole is 129. But the ends are separate????? Holy moly?? Unfair advertising

Good morning all. I need a little teaching. I just logged in my results. All good. I brushed and vacuumed. My CYA is definitely 40. But maybe even a little lower. I see that the ranges are where i am at. At what number should i start to consider adding some of that stabilizer and again with what quantity in the sock to bring it to lets say 40 again? Thank u all. If u can read my long story about heating let me know that answer to the best of ur knowledge. Thank u

I'd seriously consider a gas heater, and it sounds like you may already have a gas line in place from previous?

Get as large as you can afford - a larger heater does not cost anymore to operate but will heat faster. I have a 400k BTU heater and it gives my 21k gal pool about 2 degrees per hour, which for our swimming habits is pretty much heat on demand. I can turn it on at 8am and have a nearly 10 degree increase by noon, so we only run it when we are going to swim vs. having it maintain a constant temp.

After 1 season with the heater I tossed my solar cover in the garbage. I decided it was worth spending a few more $ to recover the overnight heat loss and never have to deal with a solar cover again.

There may be other considerations - I had to have the gas company add a larger supply line to the house, for example.

Your CYA question - anything over 30 you should treat as 40. If you get definitively at/below 30 then use pool math to calculate what you need to add 10ppm, back to 40.

Ok. Thank u. Will have to research the heater. Also my grandson pooped in the pool his swim diaper held it all in thank goodness but he did not tell us and he was in for like an hour with it on. Water looks clean etc. but i added 8 oz of bleach near the filter valve with filter on is that ok?? This is a first for us Ha ha1719073167937.png

Yeah. 11k gallons of properly chlorinated water doesn't care.

I like to stay 10 ahead of our heavy rains. I'm never sure if storm 3 or 5 will be the one to finally reguster its low. Somid dose to 40 anytime you find it a 30 on your monthly check. 1 pound of CYA should do the trick.

Thanks for the info of a gas heater. But if u would. Remember when i had my 1st gas heater i was not balancing my chemicals properly and it ate away at the heater rods inside the chassis of the heater. Being that i now only use liquid bleach thanks to u people do u think a gas heater woukd last linger? Or which unit is more maintenance free? A gas heater or heat pump?

Do u have any ideas?
I Think a heat pump would be better for your planned usage. During the regular season it will be cheaper to run. Your pool gets closed early so its not like mine that we might swim laaaaaate in the season if we could warm the wster.

But you'll likely need an electric upgrade at the equipment pad, so the HP will have the bigger install costs.

So far i have been using the solar cover. I like physical labor so putting it on and taking it off is like a challenge game for me and it helps keep me in shape. And so far keeping it on the days that i work has really boosted the heat in the pool. The only thing i may change in the short term is to buy the above ground roll up reel to make putting on and off the cover a little easier than me using that large fiberglass pole and having me roll the cover up myself manually

Did i say that right.
You did. It may be a minute for anyone to respond who had the clamp style reel.

I just spent some time searching and didn't find anyone. A couple of members who haven't visited in a while installed posts and bolted the reel to those.
