Pool Newbie -- Leak Near SWG

Hello,

Second year pool owner. My pool started leaking at the Salt Water Generator and I am trying to figure out if this is something I can fix, or should I be calling a pool professional to do so.

I think when they opened my pool, they tightened the ring (in arrows) too tight, and now it just seems to slide off once it started heavily leaking. (It wasn't leaking before this).

I am assuming that all I need to do is glue it back into the pvc pipe and then tighten it, but I haven't ever really done this before and most youtube videos seem to gloss over the specifics when it comes to this specific area.

Any tips, recommendations, or even tutorials appreciated. PIc where it's leaking below.

Here is everything about my pool in case it helps. Link - First Pool - Details/Pics/Story Inside

Are you saying the union is free from the pvc pipe? Those have O rings in them, be sure it is in good shape and lubricated.

Since I don't know the terms. I'll try to illustrate.

A is on REALLY TIGHT attached directly to the intellichlor (I can't seem to get it off, so I am letting it dry and will try in the morning). I assume this is the union? I tried to remove it with a strap wrench but all I seemed to do is unscrew the other side (maybe I need to take the whole thing off to get it off).

B slides right out of A with a tug my understand is that this shouldn't happen - comes completely out right now (it didn't before this leak started). B seems to have a slight dent in it. It's old. It's glued to the pipe I think (not sure what this piece is called). I am guessing that B needs to be replaced completely. If this is the case, not sure how to replace it. (somehow get it off and attach a new b, or cutting a pipe somehow).

I can take more pics of all this if I can get A off.

My assumption is - that all that I need to do is get B into the intellcholr, and tighten A, and it should work with a good union - but my guess is something is broken and that B needs to be replaced completely.
I am assuming if I can get A off this may make more sense, but not exactly sure what the fix is. I may discover it's cracked somewhere or that B is completely broken... but I just can't get it off even with a strap wrench. It's also unclear to me where C goes. I happen to have a new unions from a new intellichlor that was purchased when I first got the pool that easily went directly into these unions. But I don't really know how to get B off and attached a new one or if I should be using new ones at all.

Or is it more likely something is broken and that a professional will have to somehow replace this whole union? I am guessing I am not good enough to be cutting pipes, etc.

Sounds like the union half glued to the pvc pipe has come lose (B). If so, unless you are comfortable working with primer, glue, etc, call a plumber. Preferably one that is familiar with pools.

I am comfortably trying anything. I am just uncomforable that I can somehow cause more problems than I solve lol. I just didn't grow up with handy work, so every step has been an adventure with this pool, that's for sure.

I just am not sure how to get B off if I were to replace it. Logically I feel like it would be glued somehow to the pipe, and then the connection to A makes sense (still not sure where the O-ring goes - C). But the getting B off part I'm stuck on when thinking this through. I feel like I'd have to cut the PVC pipe and then attach it somehow, and I just don't want to cause what would be an easy cheap solution to become an expensive one.

I went ahead and took a video. (link to video since the embed doesn't seem to be working?)

My main issue right now is:

1) I can't get that union off the intellichlor. I am just not strong enough. I tried using a strap wrench and couldn't get it off, my hands, all my strength, tapping it, yelling at it, nothing worked. I suppose I could clamp it somewhere, and try that tomorrow (but I don't own a clamp, so I'll have to get one).

I am positive I am turning it the correct way. I even broke out the old intellichlor to make sure I was.

I don't know why it is so tight on there. I'm pretty sure the pool company I worked with last year was the last to screw this on.

2) It seems like B needs to be replaced. I am guessing it's not supposed to slide over like that. Which, I guess I have no clue how to actually do. Maybe the piece that holds it is somehow broken off into A preventing me to unscrew it, I don't know.

I am guessing I am leaning towards calling my local pool company tomorrow (unless you think a plumber would somehow be cheaper or better).

That union is broken. You will need a new one. They are Pentair proprietary. So you will need to order one on line or see if a pool supply/repair company locally has one.
