Pool math recommended levels VS TF 100 Instructions?

Have been using the TF 100 test kit since 2012.

I have noticed that I seem to be using a lot more MA and BS than I think is reasonable.

I have not spent much time keeping up with this site as everything seemed to be fine, but was researching pool cleaners and ended up going through pool school again.

Why does the pool school recommend different TA and CH than the TF 100 instructions? My guess is the Pool School is correct.

Seems in the TA test the salt and reg pool values are swapped and for the CH the values are just low in the TF 100 instructions.

I did look at the TF 100 site and seems the instructions have not changed.

Not that it matters but

Liquid Bleach

FC 8
CC 0
TC 8
PH 7.8
TA 110
CH 270
CYA 40
Temp 86

Seems I have been wasting a bunch of money with MA and BS fighting each other.

Thoughts?

I sent a link to this thread to TFT test kits. Got an answer from Nate. Indeed the info on here is correct.

I am impressed with the quick and honest answer. Rare these days

The instructions haven’t been updated yet but I am in the process of revising them.
The short answer to your question in the thread is that the online resources are easier and cheaper to update than the print resources. Let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Nate @ TFT

Oh yes it does !!

Manage the Ph in the low 7s for a while and the TA will drop rather quickly. Once it's a 60 it'll slow the Ph rise. At that point, switch to managing a high 7 Ph. Dose when it's 8+ and only to 7.8.

If you have any water features / spillover, cycle them twice a day for 15 mins to flush them and leave them off when you're not out there enjoying them. No need to have the aeration working against you if you're not using it.

I was pretty sure that today wasn't the day I had to stop telling folks that Nate was good people. Thanks for confirming. I'll bet a paycheck tomorrow isn't the day either. ;)

Right now I have dropped my PH to 7 and I have my pump on hi, waterfall on full, and outlets aimed up. Have been upping my CH all day.

Boy have I wasted lots of MA and BS.

The normal procedure is running the pump on low and waterfall trickling out of the spa. Thanks

The waterfall and the higher TA are pulling the Ph up. It will be neat to see how much those two little tweaks help. Most plaster folks need MA weekly when running a high 7 Ph. some can go longer. Keep us posted. (y)
