Pool Liner Print Rubbing Off

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the forum, so please be gentle with me!!

I purchased a new pool liner 3 years ago and I have found the print has started to rub off.

I've never had this problem before so I'm not convinced it's bad water chemistry?

Am I at fault or is it a fault of the pool liner material?

Has anyone else had this where the print literally rubs off?

I've seen liners, bleach, fade and crease... but not like this.

The lines look like packing creases from when the liner was originally packaged up and sent to us.

Any advise is much appreciated.

Hi!

Thanks for your response.

The liner is only 3 years old.

We test our water using a photometer with the levels usually around the below:

pH 7.4 - 7.8
Chlorine 3ppm - 5ppm
Cyanuric Acid 30ppm
Alkalinity 100 ppm

We put chlorine tablets in the skimmer.

Do you do it or the pool store? Is it one that uses strips?

Can you rub the color off with your hand? What happens when you brush the pool?

I will tell you I have not seen anything like this before so having to ask lots of background questions to see what is what.

The pool store do it every month.

No it doesn't use trips. You fill up cartridges with the pool water and it spins around in a machine which gives you the results digitally. The machine has been recently calibrated so is fine.

Yes, you can rub the pattern off with your hand. If you brush the pool the pattern comes off also.

The areas where the liner is stretched the most (the perimeter where the base and wall meet) is where the problem started.

No problems about the questions!

Faulty print job on the liner. Curious that it seems more prominent on the side walls than the pool floor. Do you have a cleaner that climbs walls?

Regardless, I would contact the installer of the liner and ask about warranty. YOu can probably use the liner for the next 10 years but that's pretty unsightly.

No we don't have a cleaner. We just use a net.

I have spoken to the installer who apparently has spoken to the manufacturer and they are saying low pH and high chlorine has caused the problem.

I have disagreed with this as my results have never supported this theory and it hasn't bleached or creased. The pattern just wiped off!

i had this problem with a GLI Black Onyx liner. it looked great for 6 months.......then fade started, this year the pattern started coming off big time. They warranted it at 50%.
I took it. Also..... they stopped making the Black because of so many problems. As Duraleigh said... squeaky wheel !!
