Hello everyone,

I'm new to the world of pools and recently rented a house with a pool. When I went to the pool store to buy products, the salesperson recommended shocking the pool with chlorine tablets, which I did by adding them directly into the pool liner as instructed. However, a day later, I noticed white spots on the bottom of the pool. As I am renting the house and need to return it to the landlord soon, I am looking for a solution to mask the spots and wrinkles that appeared after the shock treatment. The liner is three years old and I am concerned that I may have damaged it.

I am wondering if there is a product or powder that can be used to make the spots less visible and blend better with the rest of the pool liner. Additionally, if there is a way to bring back the original color of the liner or at least make it less noticeable, I would greatly appreciate any recommendations.

Thank you for your help and advice.

You damaged the liner; don't try to hide it from the owner.

Be honest and let them know what you did.

The liner might have to be replaced.

Get a professional evaluation and deal with it.

Do you have written instructions or proof that you were told to throw tabs on the liner?

Tabs will cause serious burns to the liner due to the low pH and the chlorine.

If you can prove that the store instructed you to put tabs on the liner, you can ask them to pay for the damage.

Do you have pictures of the damage?

How many tabs were thrown in the pool?

hi thanks for your reply no, no proof it was just a conversation when i was buying the chlorine bucket, i will go back to the store tomorrow to tell them that their advice will cost me a lot, (not much hope that they will pay ) not trying to hide anything but im just looking for a solution to repair it on my own even if it cost me some money, (do a paint job, some miracle product anything that will help me witht his situation i cant afford paying for a whole liner replacement, i just lost my job thats why i'm giving back the house to it's owner, i should have read instructions on google or watch a video instead of listening to a sales person, i've thrown something like 15 - 20 mg tablet all around the pool and 10 in the skimmers, regarding the picture it wont appear on pictures since it really appear on specific conditions (bright sunshine, and specific angle) it's raining now i will post a picture tomorrow morning if the sun allow's it

thanks a lot anyway you've been very helpful i live in spain and found in a local store this supposed miracle product Metal Stain Removal Kit it a kit that contains three product :
  • Resticlor 300 gr: removes chlorine, bromine or active oxygen.
  • Spot Remover of 1,3 Kg: allows to remove stains.
  • Ion Magnetic of 1,2 Kg: helps to sequester suspended metals.
i was thinking about buying the first two product, will this do anything or will it just be a waste of money ?
I even asked chatGPT haha and he responded this : (should iit a try (the vinegar solution ) ?

To remove chlorine stains from a pool liner, you can try the following steps:

1. Mix a solution of equal parts water and vinegar in a spray bottle.

2. Spray the affected area with the solution and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.

3. Use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub the area.

4. Rinse the area with water and repeat the process if necessary.

5. For stubborn stains, you can also try using a specialized pool liner cleaner or a mixture of baking soda and water.

thanks a lot

if you pour bleach on clothing is there is nothing you can do to restore the fabric.

That is what happened to the pool liner.

It is not a stain that can be removed. The chlorine and acid in the tablets permanently removed the ink color on the liner and some of the plasticizer that makes the vinyl flexible.

Your attempts at fixing it may make it worse.
