Pool light niche conduit sealant

I’m getting ready to install a new pool fixture; I have 2 options.
1)Drain 5,500 gallons so I have dry access to the niche 2’ down and use silicone to seal the conduit on the back of the niche.
2) use pool putty under water on the conduit.

What’s the general consensus on which would be the way to go?

I have no experience with pool putty so I’m a little hesitant of trusting it. This pool light has given me enough trouble thus far to get to this point.

If there isn't a leak in your conduit then don't worry about doing anything to seal it. There really isn't any reason to do it.

My only hesitation is that there’s currently silicone there assuming from the initial build.

Interesting. This is the first I’ve head of the grommet. So you just put this around the cord and it plugs it? Does it have something integral that makes it expand underwater or something?
