i have a ingound concrete sylvan pool. i think it was built in about 1976and is about 27500 gallons. last winter the pool level got very low, more than half empty. it was much lower than the returns and the light. in the spring i drained and painted the pool. since i refilled it i am losing at least 3" of water a day. I got a pretty good look at the shell and dont believe that it is leaking from there. when i winterized it i put to double plug in that is supposed to plug the skimmer and bottom drain. I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot this leak. because it leaked when the double plug was in in the winter, i'm wondering if that means that it is leaking in the plumbing coming from the bottom drain. i though about taking the upper plug off of the double plug and inserting them in the skimmer and then getting plugs for the bottom drain inlets. that would kind of isolate the plumbing under the pool from the skimmer the the bottom drain. does that make any sense? i could also just plug everything and see if the water drops, which to me would seem to indicate that the shell is leaking. i dug up one of the skimmers today because i heard that sylvan pools of that vintage sometimes used a section of flex hose coming from the skimmer. i didn't see and flex hose, but the black pipe that connects to the skimmer is somewhat bendable and connected with 2 hoseclamps, i didn;t see any obvios leaks. Can any provide an insight or ideas on home i might proceed?
