Hi,

I hope that someone far smarter than me can help this girl out. I have a 18x36 vinyl liner pool. The pool is about 28-29 years old. The liner is about 6-7 years old.
The pool was crystal clear (yay) and everything was great. The water level on the pool started dropping. At first, I thought it was just evaporation , but it kept going down. I live in Ga so it so very hot this time of year.
Trying to troubleshoot, we resiliconed the skimmer basket area , as it did leak last year. We had hoped that was the problem but it wasn't the water contained to go down. It might not be silicon but it is what the guy at the
pool store said to use maybe epoxy???? I'm confident that we used the right thing.
Anyway, pool level has stopped going down now. It is about an inch below the skimmer and at the bottom of the jets. Also. I put my head down by the stairs and I thought I could hear water moving/running when the water level was higher.
I did the same thing yesterday and I no longer hear the water running/moving sound. I am so scared that there is a leak in the pipes. We also have a light but the water level is above the light.
Any help would be so appreciated. My crystal clear pool is now a swamp.
Also, not to be ugly, we had a rather "large" person on the steps and the problem started after that so maybe something to do with that ????? The pool is almost 30 years old and in direct Ga sun all day.
As stated previously, I did hear what sounded like water running where the steps and the straight wall connect ( hard for me to explain) . I don't know how to describe that. I thought maybe a leak at the bottom of the steps but wouldn't I still hear what sounds like running water since the bottom step is still covered with water???? The top step is completely dry/no water on it at all.
Again, scratching my head and in need of help.
This is a great forum. This forum is the one that told me to check for hairline cracks in the skimmer area previously and that was the issue. I hope we can be 2 for 2 !!!!
Give me your best educated guesses.
Thanks so much.

Might try this product to find the leak. Just a light squeeze of the bottle near a suspected leak will allow a small stream of the bluing out. If there is a leak it will flow to it. Looks like blue smoke. Easier to use than food coloring. Add a bottle to the pool if having a party and the water will really shine. Goes away shortly. Doesn't affect chemistry.
