Well after a few hiccups, the pool is filling as I type this. Tomorrow I'll put the ladder together and get it in there. My first question is when should i put the solar cover on the pool? I was going to put it on now that the water is almost 10 inches, but they said it would sink?

I cant completely fill it until the inspector comes again. Then I reckon I will test it and then start the chemical process.

Hopefully I'm doing this right!

Welcome to TFP and congratulations on your new pool!

You can put the solar cover on now as it's filling but I'm not sure how much benefit you'll get out of it. The water is so cold coming out of the ground that it will warm up regardless. If it's dry and dusty, the cover may help keep some of the crud out of the water though.

If you put a lot of hose in the water, the cover wont sink as the water will go in below the cover. Most covers float anyway even if they have some water on them.

If your pump isn't going to be operational for a few days, then each night after the sun is off the pool, add 3 cups of bleach. This will put a little FC in the water and help prevent algae. It wont stay long without CYA, but can work overnight. Mix it around with a brush as best as you can.
