Hi,

My pool was out of service for a while as I worked on plumbing, adding unions, rerouting pipes, and replacing the sand filter, laterals, and multi-port valve. During this downtime, algae developed, so I began the SLAM process on Monday (26th). However, the pool hasn't shown any improvement; it's still just as green as when I started.

Last Sunday, I added acid to lower the pH to 7.2, then raised the chlorine to about 16 ppm and have maintained it between 16-18 ppm over the past 5 days. I've been testing the water 2-3 times daily, brushing and vacuuming daily, running the robot for 4-5 hours each day, and keeping the pump running continuously. In the past, I've seen the water change color within a day, turning cloudy, but now, on day five, there's been no change.

Here were the levels before starting SLAM:
  • pH: 7.2
  • TA: 60
  • CYA: 40
  • CH: 200
  • FC: 0

Is that a puck floater? If so take it out, Trichlor adds cya, raising your necessary slam level.
Also, many Trichlor tablets contain copper which you definitely don’t want in your pool.

Make sure you are using liquid chlorine and not cap hypo powder.

Test and add chlorine every 2 hours...you'll see progress.

Welcome to TFP!!!

Thanks!, i test 3 times (sunrise/midday/sunset) currently as i'm not seeing big drops in CH. At the start, i was testing more often.

Yes, its there as i'm doing the vacuuming and refilling, the CYA will drop, its just there to balance as my last test today was at 35.

Make sure you are using liquid chlorine and not cap hypo powder.
So i had 4 cal hypo 73% 1 pounders left over and i used them during the first few days alongside liquid chlorine, other than that, its been 10-12% liquid chlorine.

Beware that some people report the powder can make it cloudy when used in large quantities.

Are you at least noticing a change in clarity? Using the steps or pole as a reference is helpful.
In your pic the corner looks blue but the center is vividly green. Could just be a shadow thing.
If your fc losses have slowed that’s progress! Try not to get discouraged and keep with the slam as often as you can. Hit it hard on your day off if you get one. The more you stay at slam level the faster it will get better.
