Pool Is Green With High Chlorine Reading

Just catching back up - no notifications for some reason.
Definitely looking better👍🏻
I feel I should have mentioned this before as this has taken quite a while, but the more polyfill surface area the better.
This is why the bucket method is so helpful. You could also enlist a submersible pump in the fight as well since you really just need a way to run more water through more poly fill.

Are you backwashing & noticing iron tinged waste water?
I just ordered some cellulose fiber to try this go round since I ran out of DE. Some folks have good results with it when it comes to catching more iron. Time will tell I suppose.
Thanks for the reply. I'm interested in the Cellulose Fiber. Can you use that with a sand filter in the same way you use DE? In terms of backwashing, I really haven't had to since my pressure has not increased by 20-25%. In fact, it's barely moved. I am planning on doing a deep clean of the sand filter because I have not in a long time in case I have channeling or something. But wondering with all of the iron removal if I should backwash anyways to just clear out any iron in there.

It is used in the same way. Here’s the instructions for the brand I bought but I suspect they are all the same
Its a little more expensive than de but I will use so little that is kind of a moot point.

A deep clean of your sand is probably a good idea. Should be done every couple seasons anyway & gives you a chance to inspect things. You should be prepared to replace any gaskets or orings & have some pool lube on hand before taking anything apart.
Do you have the s210s (mvp on the side)
or s210t (mpv on top) filter?

I don’t need to backwash often (maybe once a month or less) but when I do I always do it twice.
Backwash till sight glass water is clear then let it sit/refill a couple minutes and do it again. I almost always end up seeing more stuff come through.
Then rinse until sight glass is crystal clear & has no sand.
If we get alot of rain and I need to drain I will usually backwash then so I am not just wasting the water. I try to just take advantage of those free water instances to prevent having to replace any water with the hose since I am unsure about my iron content but I know I have copper in my fill water.
I usually add about 2 cups of de (mixed with a pitcher of water) after every backwash for a 1psi rise.

Thanks, what is the filtration difference between DE & Cellulose? After I deep clean the sand filter, I’ll try DE again but if I need something to get me to the finish line I’ll get some Cellulose Fiber. Thanks for the tip.

How effective is the cellulose fiber vs DE? Since I have the DE on hand, after I do a deep clean I’ll try a bit more to see if that helps get me to the finish line and then maybe order some CF if not.

I have an S210T, and replaced the piece with the gasket (forget what it’s called) when opening the pool (should have done the deep clean then but that was before I knew about that process).

Great tips on the 2x backwash and after raining makes a lot of sense.

Here’s what the backwash looked like this AM. Even though PSI had not increased much I decided to backwash to remove the iron and looks like the filter caught a lot of it.
Great 👍🏻 note that clean pressure and do the DE again.

The celluose fiber is supposed to filter down to 2 microns vs DE is between 3-6.
Not a major difference but
I figured it was worth a shot to try it since I ran out of DE & it comes in a resealable bag that takes up little space.

If I don't make any additional progress over the next week, I think I'll order some and give it a shot!

I have noticed that while the water color has certainly changed over the past few weeks, I have some rust staining on the walls and floor of the pool. Any ideas for how to remove those?

After slam is done & you’ve filtered out all the iron you can. Best to tackle the job when water temps are low to avoid gaining an algae problem.
