I replaced our pool equipment last year and while I am generally pleased with it, especially how quiet it is, but I am not pleased with the frequency of cleaning the cartridges.
All of our previous equipment was Pentair: DE 60 fns filter, pool heater, and variable speed pump. When it was time to replace the equipment the pool company who had refinished the pool recommended Jacuzzi. I found a lot of very positive reviews so I ordered the equipment. One of my primary questions was about the filter. We have 2 Golden Retrievers who would live in the pool if we let them and the pool is surrounded by very large trees from our adjacent neighbor. The Jacuzzi filter is classified as an 80 SF De filter but with 4 cartridges. The problem is it does not have a backwash capability. With the Pentair, the filters needed to be broken down approximately every 3 months and were backwashed weekly. The Jacuzzi needs the cartridges cleaned every week to 2 weeks depending on use and the number of leaves dropping in the pool. Since our pool company can't backwash it takes them about an hour to remove, clean, and replace the cartridges at $100 each time they do this. (Yes, I could probably learn to do this but am not inclined to.) I could replace the filter with another Pentair DE filter for less than the annual cost of cleaning the cartridges. When I mentioned this to my pool service company they suggested putting a sand filter in front of the Jacuzzi filter so that they could backwash the sand filter which would prevent the Jacuzzi from being broken down as often.
It sounds convoluted to me and I am concerned that if the sand filter is the primary filter it may not be able to clean the pool as well with 2 Goldens swimming in it every day.
All suggestions welcomed!
