Hi,

I am looking into preventing over night heat dissipation. One of the options discussed here is to use pool covers? Does any one have any recommendation on what I should buy?

Thanks,

A bubble wrap type cover would work well, is light weight, easy to remove and not very expensive. There are different types so do some research, you may want one that will warm the pool water during the day also to extend your swim season a bit.

Solar covers can get pretty heavy. You should also think about how you are going to get it on and off and how you are going to store it. My pool is basically a rectangle so a reel cover was a necessity.

Thanks for the reply. Would you be able to tell me to what you are using?

I'm aways south of you and my issue now is keeping my pool water cool enough. My pool water is 84f and I'm using shade sails about 10' over the water surface.

I haven't used a solar cover for several years since we switched to an auto cover. I typically used a clear mid-weight cover. The really thin ones didn't hold up and the really thick ones didn't last long enough to justify the price. The super thick ones are also really heavy. Figure a lifespan of 2 - 3 years before you need to replace it. It is best if you consider them consumable. Warranty doesn't mean much it is very difficult to get them to honor it.

I have a 12 or 14mil blue cover 24x12. Easy enough to get on and off without a reel and cost about $100 CAD. Really worth the investment. Funny it said that FC over 3 will void warranty.

lol

I didn't like the 8 mil cover. It tore too easily and didn't last long. A 10mil or 12mil will be more durable. In my humble opinion, the thickness of the cover doesn't have much to do with heat loss. It's not a thermal blanket, it's preventing heat loss from evaporation and conduction to the air.
