Pool Cover Pump - weep hole

1/4 HP Wayne Pool Cover Pump WAPC250. My weep hole clogs up about every other time I use the pump. Not with a ton of debris, it just takes a little clump of dirt to clog it.

I find myself taking apart the pump to clear the weep hole weekly. That isn't hard, just a nuisance. Is this frequency of clogging typical?

I have the Little Giant cover pump that came with my cover. I have used it for three winters and have not had to remove any debris that clogs it. I get leaves and pine needles. I do, however, occasionally get a skimmer net and try to remove leaves an other debris.

It sounds like a design flaw in yours. Maybe try wrapping the whole pump in some netting or screen.
