I had a pool company winterize my saltwater pool at a summer vacation home. When I went down to check what they did, I found that the Jandy valve handle was gone from the 3 way valve between the skimmer, main drain and pump. I called to ask what happened and they told me they always remove it for the winter. I dont trust them as they closed my pool last year and didnt take it away . Is removing it SOP or did they possibly break it?

If you have a main drain, you want to keep it airlocked. Removing the handle removes the risk of accidentally removing the airlock.

Removing the diverter handles is often done by pool services winterizing pools.
The handles and other bits they remove are often placed in the pump basket.
They should be left somewhere around the pool equipment. Depends what equipment you have and where there is a good place to stash things.

You don't want it on the valve as the Chace it gets bumped or moved renders your main drain not winterized. The most likely left it in the pump basket as that's what I do.
