pool closing chemistry

starting to prepare for pool closing in northeast {NJ} Oct 8th. I have 7 gallons of liquid chlorine. by time the 8th i figure i would have somewhere around 3-4 gallons
would it be a good idea to put what is ever left into the pool a day or two before and run filter. I know chlorine losses its strength over time. Chlorine date is 219 of 24 [early Aug]

in the 60-range last check probably around a month ago

Dump your liquid chlorine in the pool. It will raise your FC by around 12 ppm which is well below SLAM level for your CYA.
