Polaris PB4SQ Booster Pump leaking from body

Has anyone seen leaking from a 1 yr old Polaris PB4SQ main body? It is literally coming out of the main body, not a seam or joint. I am not sure if there is a rebuild kit or washers. Any recommendations or is 1 year the average life of Polaris Booster products? Any suggestions on a better quality booster pump to replace if that is the only solution?

If I might ask, "after having seen several of these leaks"...what was the actual problem causing the leak? I am having the exact same issue at the exact same place on the PB4SQ but am not under warranty due to it being almost two years old and I installed it myself. The leak just started today, and I am trying to find some answers before I start tearing it apart. Any help would be greatly appreciated by me and a number of members on this site.

I'd like to help, but my 1 yr old Polaris pump started leaking at the same place couple days ago, getting worse.

Mine was leaking today about 15 months old. Under pool warranty and tech said this housing is failing and a lot of these are getting g replaced. The techs have been switching them out with a different housing that is thicker from the Polaris.

Hi! Same issue here occurred 3 months ago (booster pump just 3 yrs old) and still waiting for the Polaris replacement body part but it’s been out of stock since I ordered it. Do you know the compatible part they have been switching them out with? I’d like to see if I can purchase that instead. Thanks!

I have the same leak in the exact same spot. I went to my local pool retail location and before I couldn't even finish explaining what was going on before the rep there stopped me and said it sounds like I have the PB4SQ. This is a design defect and should be fixed by Fluidra - Polaris. I contacted them and they just said the warranty ran out and to contact my local pool supplier. Of course you cannot find the pump body part anywhere.

Hi All,

I had the same issue - twice. The first time Leslie Pool Supply replaced the entire pump under warranty. Last month (8 months after the last replacement) I had the same issue. Leaking from the pump housing (part # R0723100). This time Leslie said they could not help and could not get the part. I called Polaris, explained that I’ve had the same issue twice in less that 20 months. They advised that the part has been redesigned and agreed to send me the new part. I’ve now received the new pump housing and it is installed. I’ve included a few pictures of the old part showing the crack and side by side of the old and new parts. You can see the added reinforcement on the underside and inside around the inlet.

Best regards

Tony

Seeing as how this a manufacturing defect, I would suggest that anyone who runs into the “your warranty ran out” excuse to inform them that you will be lodging a complaint with the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission. You can even have a lawyer draft a demand letter and send it to their corporate legal department. If enough complaints are filed, CPSC can force Fluidra to issue a recall of all pumps built within a certain date range.

Believe me, no product manufacturer wants the CPSC breathing down their necks.

A brief follow-up: I’ve installed the new housing and now using the booster pump. It is working and my Polaris 280 is moving around pool normally. Unfortunately, the PB4SQ is very, very loud. A far cry from previously having to touch it to verify that it is running!! Does this mean that the bearings are bad? Trying to understand what might be wrong now. Could this be a result of the housing having cracked and the pump running dry? I do believe the housing cracked during the deep freeze we had in December. Hoping I can frame the issue with Polaris in a way that they hopefully find it in them to solve this issue for me.

Did the pump run dry or did the bearings get wet and corrode from the leak?

Good chance a bearing was damaged during the leak.

Let us know how you do sweet talking Polaris Customer Service.
