Polaris 380 Swivels

I have been having troubled with my 380 tying itself in knots so I decided to replace the swivels. I had tried some of the cheaper ones in the past and they either didn't work well from the get-go or they started to lose their spin within a few months. I ordered a pair of swivels from an online Polaris dealer and when they arrived they did not look like nor function like the Polaris swivels I had purchased in the past. The design was different and with the original polaris swivels a flick of the finger would have them spinning like a roller skate wheel while these barely moved. I contacted the dealer who confirmed they were genuine Polaris swivels. I then contacted Polaris support and sent them photo's. They confirmed that I had received the correct part but since I was not satisfied with the way they spun they replaced both under warranty. The ones I received from Polaris were exactly the same and still lacked the smooth operation I had come to expect. I installed anyway and the cleaning head is. still tying itself in knots. Did Polaris make a change to their swivels and not for the better?

Show us pictures of how your cleaner and hose sit in the water.

Often the floats and swivel are not properly positioned as described in the Polaris manual.

See…

Do you have two swivels on the hose?

Is this a new problem? Did your Polaris not tie itself in knots with that hose?

Have you replaced the backup valve?

There are 2 swivels. I have not replaced the backup valve but seems to be working normally. I have played around with the position of the floats and it seems to help. I'm wondering if the unit is just climbing too much. Seems to spend a lot of time along the surface. I've positioned the jet to prevent that but it does it anyway.

A backup valve that is too aggressive will whip the cleaner around the hose.

The backup valve should pull the cleaner straight back with the hose behind the cleaner.

Have you observed when the cleaner gets tangled in the hose?
