Hey everyone, I just joined this forum out of desperation. I just bought a house with a pool where the CYA was 2-300. I drained nearly all of it and refilled with the hose. I have been adding chemicals vigorously the last 2 weeks trying to get it under control and no matter what I do it is cloudy and green. I cant see past 4 feet from the surface and it is very green. The pump was down for a week or so but now it functional again and running 8 hours a day. It is a big 4 cartridge style filter and i just rinsed out the cartridges. Here are my test results with sad sad photos of the pool coming soon. I am at my wits end and about to hire a pool guy so I can focus on house renovations and overdue car maintenance. I feel like the chemicals are all pretty close to the ranges they should be so maybe it just needs another few days to filter out? You all are my last hope, thank you in advance!

August 5th
Free Chlorine: 10 PPM (I triple shocked last night to try to kill the algae)
Combined Chlorine: 1 PPM
CYA: 20
Alkalinity: 80
PH: 7.4
Calcium Hardness 200

What does triple shock mean? What type of chlorine are you adding? You should follow the SLAM process. Need to get your CYA at least 30ppm for that, and dont use calhypo, stick with liquid chlorine.

Triple the recommended dosage as far as I know. I put maybe 7-8 bags into out 26,000 gallon pool. I just checked and Ive been using Doheny's super shock whcih is calhypo. I will go get liquid chlorine asap. Is that what is causing the problem? I added more stabilizer earlier today to get CYA above 30. I will start SLAM tomorrow if CYA looks good.
