Please Help Me -- Green Pool

Here's a little update...

I've been keeping the FC at 10 when I dilute 1:1. It's taking less and less bleach each day. I'm thinking that's a good thing. :?:

My test kit FINALLY shipped today. :grrrr:

I've been vaccuming the clumps that settle on the bottom to waste. I've been brushing the sides of the pool... :whip:

I can now see the drains at the bottom of the deep (8') even though it is cloudy. The shallow is getting clearer and clearer.

I'm excited about the progress, but nervous that I'm going to mess up while waiting on my test kit to arrive.

Thanks again to everyone who has given advice and encouraged me along the way...

I know, I am wishing I would've ordered the other kit, too...
Where's the smiley showing me smacking myself in the head and saying "DOH" like Homer Simpson??? LOL

I am sure I'll upgrade to the other kit when $$ isn't so tight around here...

 this is what we got lol

:hammer:

Update for today...

The pool is getting clearer every day. Today I noticed there were only small amounts of dead algae on the bottom of the pool, and I could easily see to the bottom of the deep even though it's a little bit cloudy, so... I decided to do a very thorough vac of the whole pool. I brushed everything last night so, I felt like it was a good time to scoop up what had settled over the night. :-D

I then got in (wasn't sure if I should or not) and wiped down the border of the liner above the water line and down about 4 inches as well, where I didn't really feel like my brushing/vaccuming had been able to reach. I also wiped down all of the skimmers on every surface possible as well as the ladders and returns, again, trying to reach obscure places that I didn't think the brush reached...

I added some more bleach to get back to a FC level of 10 using the 1:1 dilution method. I think I am closing in on the end of this battle... Once I get my real test kit, I can do the OCLT and hopefully officially be finished shocking!! :whoot:

Is there anything I am missing or doing incorrectly? I have read and re-read the "Turning Your Green Swamp..." article several times and I think I am doing all that it says, but I'm still such a newbie, any advice or input is greatly appreciated. :-D

Lots and lots of rain today... :(

I figured I needed to check FC, and I did. I added more bleach to keep it at shock level...

My test kit arrived today. :whoot:

The water in my pool is crystal clear and I vaccumed up the little amounts of algae that were gathered on the bottom, got the rest of the little stuff with the net, and backwashed the filter...

Now that my kit is here, I am trying to decide if I should do the OCLT tonight or wait until tomorrow evening. Any thoughts?

According to my test strip using the 1:1 dilution, my FC is 10...

Okay, here are my test results from tonight:

FC 10.5
CC 0.5
pH 7.5
ALK 130
Calcium 140
CYA 35

I'm thinking my FC is high, but that's because of the shocking I've been doing to rid the pool of algae.
I think my CYA is a little low.

I'm off to look at the pool calculator ...
Any advice? Should I test the FC/CC in the am to see if I can pass the OCLT?

Thanks as always for your time and help... it means SO much to me!

Your shock level for CYA 35 is about 15.

I think my CYA is a little low.
After you are done shocking (meet the three criteria) you can then increase your CYA to 50.

Yes.

Nice job with the testing! :goodjob:

Since the water is clear, I suggest the OCLT tonight!

Also, now that your kit is there, use the FAS/DPD and stop doing the dilution test with OTO! :)

It took me a little while, but I figured out how to do the tests using the kit :p
I totally see how useless the strips were and am so glad you guys helped me see the light!!
When the UPS guy pulled into the neighborhood, it was all I could do not to hug him -- :-D

Should I add bleach tonight to raise to shock level of 15? Or let it be for tonight and see what the OCLT results are in the am? I know I shouldn't add chlorine after I've taken the night reading for the OCLT...

Sorry if that's a dumb question...
It's good you restrained yourself with the UPS guy lol

Well, if you have time to add, circulate and then retest, then I suggest raising to 15; otherwise, just use what you have.

I got a good feeling about this OCLT :)
