Thank you in advance!

I have been losing water and realized the leak on the pressure side (I think this is the suction side - right before the pump?) of the pool pump. I have a Hayward variable pump - when I am on the low setting, I don't notice the leak. But when the pump is working hard, the leak is a thin spray. I tried to put JB weld but it did not work. Is this something that I can DIY?

Is there a quick fix I could try? Or do I have to unscrew or replace the joint?

I've fixed small leaks before by sawing the pvc pipe462554195_569526035776373_7693693683921704224_n (1).jpgs.

Welcome to TFP! Correct, everything in front of the pump is suction and everything after the pump is pressure. If water is pushing outward, it sounds like that is on the pressure side. If it was the suction side (front of pump), it would pull air "in". Leaks after the pump (pressure) typically require the fitting to be removed/replaced since constant pressure is always applied pushing outward. Sealants generally don't stand a chance with that outward pressure. Leaks like that on the suction side (ideally) would also be best served by replacing the fitting, but sometimes a dab of silicone caulking can help as it should get pulled "in" to the crack or gap.

Is it possible to unscrew and use teflon or some kind of a seal?
That depends on the exact fitting/location of the leak. More pics later should help. If it's just the threads on the nut, you "might" get away with a wrap or two of Teflon tape, but never too much or it can break from the force. But if the nut is cracked it will need to be replaced.

Looks to me like the leak may be from the joint between the motor and the volute. Are you sure the water is coming out from the pipe?

Note the union nut says hand tighten only. It may have been over tightened and the O ring compressed.

If the leak is at the union, it needs to either be tightened or a new O ring, SPX3200UG.
If it is at the joint between the sealplate and body it needs to either be tightened (six nuts/bolts) or a new body O ring/gasket, SPX3200T.
