Last night around dusk there was a clump in the middle of my shallow end I fished it out with anet came out with about a hundred maggots. I trash has been taken out a few hours before so I ran out to check the trash cans and there were maggots in them. They're usually about 50 ft away from my pool on the other side of my fence. What can I do I'm really grossed out. I'm actually swimming away the net cuz I can't barely use it again. I did do a backwash and then a rinse of my sand filter I have an inground pool I can't see any more on the bottom there are a few stragglers floating on the top. Please tell me I don't have to empty the pool I just filled it 3 weeks ago but I want to sanitize it. How do I go about doing that and when I mean sanitized I'm a clean freak and just knowing they where in there makes me not want to use the pool ever again.

Do you have raccoons in your area? My guess is that one found it's dinner in your trash can and used your pool to wash it before enjoying. There is no way I can imagine those being in your water other than another animal dropping them in there. That said, chlorine is indiscriminate in its destruction of organic materials. Whatever bacteria was left behind is likely already dead. But, a SLAM might help you feel better about it.

Just check your CC tomorrow. If it is down, whatever might have been is vaporized.
