Plaster issue

New pool just this year; it was plastered white in late April. We've been noticing very small black spots in the surface of the plaster as well as discoloration; almost like a camouflage type pattern with some areas noticably darker than others. I'm expecting the plaster contractor to come take a look soon. The pool company said they'll probably recommend an acid bath or a full drain and acid wash.

Thoughts on any of this? We spent a good deal of money on this project and to have it not perfect is frustrating.

Should they be covering the cost of chemicals and water if the pool needs to be drained and refilled? What if the pool "floats" from the ground water? Who's responsible? I'm assuming we do nothing until everything is in writing.

Thanks for any thoughts on this. I'm losing sleep 😔

Perfection is the enemy of good.

Your plaster looks better then most.

An acid wash will thin your plaster and reduce the life of it. Do you want to reduce the life time of the plaster due to some cosmetics?

The other things you ask are all a negotiation with your builder.

You can end up with bigger problems in your pursuit of perfection.

No, nylon is what i would use. The spots kinda look like areas where the cream hasnt been removed as much as other areas. If that is what it is, it may get better over time.
 
I don't have a plaster pool but it would think that this would "weather" after a season or two like a wooden fence to even up a bit. Maybe shoot for real good and not perfection like stated above.

Those spots (on the sunshelf in the first photo) are actually where the pool company did a spot acid treatment to get rid of yellow/brown stains from what they said looked like pollen. So those areas are now whiter than the surrounding plaster. Which I'm also annoyed with.

You make my point to leave it alone. Your pictures look better then average now.
 
I really haven't seen other pools so I don't have anything to compare with. I guess I just assumed that since we paid for white plaster, it would be white and not have imperfections and speckles and different shades of white.

Plaster is hand mixed and trowled and has natural variations. Rarely does plaster look like a smoothly painted surface.

I see. I guess none of this was explained to us before the plaster process. I have yet to leave a review for the company, just one more thing to add to the list I guess :)
 
You can view a lot of folks plaster and more serious problems they have if you browse around the Forum.
