Plaster failure

He came by today to drain the pool. Says he will saw cut under the tile and use scratch coat 2000.
He will then plaster over that using it for a more secure bond.
Anybody ever use this product? He says it has a 10 year warranty.

Yes he will have to chip off all of the current plaster then this stuff I think gets sprayed on and then plastered over. I need to look into it a little deeper. I have never heard of it until today. He said he started using it a few years ago and loves it.
He didn’t use it on my pool which was done 4 1/2 years ago so obviously he hasn’t been able to give it the 10 year test.

@bdavis466 Brian, what do you think of scratch coat 2000?

@dumbcluck I would talk to your guy about using the stuff bdavis suggests. It is a KNOWN product to him and he KNOWS his stuff.

Will you be there when they come out to start working? Do you have the fact he is to do a full chip out in writing? (yeah I am very worried he is going to try to get out of that most important part of this redo)

I don’t recall him explicitly saying that. I just assumed (I know) that they would have to. He did purchase replacement tile for the step trim so that does lead me to believe that they will.
He talked about saw cutting under the tile surrounding the pool on top at the waterline ,and I can’t imagine not removing existing plaster or else after applying scratch coat 2000 and then plaster over that would protrude out beyond where the tiles are set. In other words I think he would have to chip it out fairly deep to make 2 layers even with the tile.
Am I wrong to think this ?

Some will do a partial chip out. They will chip around the returns, skimmer, tile, etc. and that is all. They will then shot the new plaster over the old stuff :( and fill in where they chipped out.

As you can imagine it is MUCH cheaper and easier for him to have them do the part instead of the full chip out!!

Is your wife up to handling it if she sees they try to do just the the part chip out?

You cannot allow them to do a partial chip out!!! Your pool NEEDS a whole chip out so they can fix any shell problems they find. You just think you have problems now..........if you don't make them do a full chip out you will have even worse problems.

I’m guessing this is what a partial chip out looks like?
