Planning Stage - LAGOON OWNERS HELP

So I am in the planning stages of building a pool; I have receive d 4 bids from different contractors; all vary differently because each one does something different; example I wanted liner steps, the builder that does liner steps only does salt; so I am having trouble picking one; just having trouble nailing down my pool shape actually; I love the lagoon shape L; does anyone that has this shape have a list of pro's/con's??? I almost think I should go with something more traditional just for keeping things simple.

For the more simple design, the pool is a freeform 16x32? Is that a medium size pool? To go up in the next size is 4k. Which leaves me with "might as well get the lagoon" and get the paradise look that I want...decisions, decisions!

b,

Well, in my mind, building a pool is not about ROI, but rather the enjoyment and feelings it provides. If you settle for something less than you want, you will remember that every time you get in the pool.

Obviously, I'm talking about something within reason. Spending $4 or $5K more than what you want, when spread out over the life of the pool, will be insignificant.

Have you ever used a saltwater pool? They are some of the easiest pools to maintain. Is there a reason you don't want a saltwater pool?

Thanks for posting,

Other than a profit motive, I have no idea why he wouldn't just price out the SWCG as an option if you don't want it. Right now pool builders are making money hand over fist where I live, so I guess they try to squeeze as much money out of every job as they can. I understand the 1500 (builder price) for a SWCG buys a lot of bleach/liquid chlorine. Plus, they know that an SWCG is easy to DIY install later for half the price.

I have a SWCG and love it, it is currently disconnected while my new surface cures. I add salt again on January 20th.

Wouldn't "only does salt" translate to "insists on including a SWG"? That doesn't strike me as a reasonable position for a poool builder to take. Ive never built a pool though. Am I missing something?

Here is the best thing you can do.............share all 4 designs here. Clearly label them so we can talk about each one. Make sure to include all equipment-sizes and models so we can look those over.

I LOVE to help design pools so I will be waiting to see what you have to work with!

To my mind if you want a lagoon, get a lagoon
Your hard earned money and you have to look at it every day
The only downside I could see with it would be careful placement of skimmers and returns so you get good water flow with no dead spots
We can advise on that though

I agree with kim, post up your fav designs and we can talk through the pros and cons of each
