How do I know which pipe is from the 2 floor drains and which is from the 2 skimmers? Also where should I set the valve?

Use the valve to isolate either the one pipe on the left, or the two pipes on the right, see which way stops the flow of water into the skimmers, that side is to the skimmers and the other side is the bottom drains.

As far as to the "normal" position, I keep my floor drain and skimmers open all the time. The floor drain pulls colder water from the bottom and helps to keep the pool temperature more even, and of course the skimmers collect floating debris.

Rug,

In the perfect world, each of the pipes coming up to your pump would have a 2-way Jandy valve. This would allow you to independently control the three inputs, but you will have to use what you have.

The two floor drains are connected to just one pipe going back to the equipment pad. I would "assume" this would be the pipe on the left in your pic.

The two pipes on the right are most likely your two skimmers.

People are different and pools are different, but I recommend that you only open the pipe to your main drain about 10%. This will make your skimmers work better..

As a test, you can turn the valve so that the handle point directly to the right.. This will shut off what I assume is the main drain. Then you can go over to your skimmers and see if you can feel a strong suction at the pipe under each skimmer basket. You are likely to find that the near skimmer has a lot of suction, and the far skimmer has a lot less suction. This is due to your inability to individually adjust each skimmer line.

Thanks,

Jim R.

That's what I was thinking but was wondering if there's a rule of thumb around the pipe size vs qty
