Photobucket has disabled third party hosting

OK guys what do you suggest I do when I want to post pics. I just posted on another post that I got 3rd party blocked by photobucket.

For photos you wish to share on TFP the answer is simple, attach them here. :) TFP supporters are given extra space and we encourage you to use it. You've already helped the forum out by your donation....it's our gift to you. :) We encourage you to use it so this doesn't happen again in the future.

I have used Imgur for the past 6+ years... didn't know they had banned it?

Nope... it still works for me

It was linked to previously and is apparently in their TOS. They probably don't care about small-potatoes stuff. If you get big enough and they take note, they can shutdown your account without warning.

I haven't read but I'll post what others are saying,

In their Terms Of Service apparently it says you're not allowed to use links on outside websites. Now what they wish to do about this is up to them. They could address the issue by redirecting to a static photo or they could turn their cheek and allow the photos to be uploaded.

If that is the case, why does it have the option to copy the links needed for use on ANY web site, or message board right on the picture, with an explanation of what each link is used for... HTML, BB code, direct link... etc?

Using a link for personal reasons, say in an email or personal webpage is probably ok. Using links on other websites for monetary purposes or simply to use their website as a hosting service is not ok. They are not clear cut on their distinction and most likely that's purposely done so that they can have maximum discretion if they decide to shut you down.

I posted the Imgur info re their TOS for 3rd party hosting. I found the copied/pasted passage below on the Imgur site copyrighted 2017 at the bottom of the page. It confirms the quote I copied from ghacks.net. I just wanted to verify it, and I believe I have. But...my feeling about the web is, Who really Knows for Sure. How's that for optimism!

Below is copied from the Imgur site, and my conclusion is that you use Imgur to paste photos for TFP at your own risk. I don't plan to bother with them.

The essentials
Our Privacy Policy has changed
Using our app to do anything other than access the links to this "Terms" page or accessing any page of our website other than our home page and this "Terms" page constitutes your consent to these terms of use and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not consent, do not use our website.
Your use of our website to do anything beyond simply accessing/viewing it (that is, uploading, downloading, commenting, etc.), constitutes not merely your consent, but also your electronic signature, meaning that you are contractually bound by these terms and by our Privacy Policy.
Our community rules
These Terms of Use are our contract with you. We also have community rules, developed thanks to input from the Imgurian community, that serve as guidelines for using Imgur. We welcome your input.
Stuff not to do
If someone else might own the copyright to it, don't upload it. Don't upload gore, "hate speech" (i.e. demeaning race, gender, age, religious or sexual orientation, etc.), or material that is threatening, harassing, defamatory, or that encourages violence or crime. Don't upload illegal content such as child porn or nonconsensual ("revenge") porn. Don't hotlink to adult content or to file-sharing, gambling, torrent, warez, or Imgur rip-off sites. Don't impersonate someone else. Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge – or if you do anything illegal, in addition to any other legal rights we may have, we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com. We mean it.

Here's the link if you want to read more. At one point, it seemed like they contradicted their statements, but legal-ease is not my strength. Let me know if I've misunderstood what they're really saying.

Here's the link for attaching your pictures onto the TFP Gallery. I've never used it before, so I have a couple of questions.

Posting Photo's Tutorial

1. About how many pictures can a supporting member add? I know it depends on size, but a ballpark would be helpful.
2. Can we add pictures that we've gotten from sites like Pinterest (for samples of design ideas) or an equipment manual (like installing a gas regulator)? Or is it only picutres we have snapped with whatever camera we use?

To Lee, moderators, or whoever: Since the link above was recently updated, can you add that to the title of this thread? For example "......... Updated 2017" I know you guys all know and remember it has been updated (and I probably will now, Lol!!), but many times, I have done a quick search to find the link to post for someone new to TFP. When it pops up on Google, I see it's from 2014 and keep searching to find a newer thread. Then I go back and read through the whole thing and realize the 2014 has the new directions on it. I've done this process more than I want to admit. I always figure if I do something, I'm not the only one. Thanks!!

Suz,

Thank you greatly for copying the TOS. Watching the fallout some today from PhotoBucket it's likely they won't take the same path but you never know. All it takes is one wrong promotion and somebody looking out for the money as opposed to their mission to mess up a lot!

As for your two questions,
I'd like to hold off for now as I continue to address some stuff. All day this change has been causing me issues and left a horrid taste in my mouth about PhotoBucket. I've been doing all I can to attempt to copy any photos from their site to TFP that I can but it's a pain to say the least.

TO ALL!!!
I've seen mixed results today on photobuckets attempt at blocking. In more than one recent thread I've seen photos from photobucket work. Please look at your threads if you have used photobucket to see if the photos are blocked. If they're still showing and you would like to copy them to TFP please send me a link and I'll do my best to save them. In the mean time I cannot recommend Photobucket even if they change their Terms of Service. They've simply lost their minds.

I use googlephoto for our family pics. It is ridiculously easy and allows unlimited, free photo storage if you let them resize it to some reasonable size that works fine for us. All of our devices are automatically synced to the cloud. If anyone takes a pic with anything it automatically uploads to our Google photo account. I don't know if it allows for 3rd party hosting. I have no trouble uploading pics from Google photo to the TFP photo gallery.

I have 100 pics in the TFP photo gallery right now.

Mine are blocked unfortunately.

I didn't actually move anything. My pictures are still at photobucket but blocked (I don't have all that many). I just went to imgur and signed up and uploaded the 7 or 8 I needed to fix my one pvc tray holder thread. Haven't decided what to do beyond that.

Is there a way to find out how much we're allowed for uploads directly to TFP? Meaning, if I start uploading is there somewhere that says "you have used X of your alloted XX mb" ?

:)

If they think anyone's going to pay them after this...I suppose a few people might do it but most people will just find something else.

Reminds me of a search result I got in Google today. I was searching for preorder info on the new Super NES Classic console. One of the results was for a Forbes.com news article. I clicked it and was brought to a page that essentially yelled at me for having an adblocker. It had a "continue to site" link/x but just kept bringing me back to the "you're using an adblocker" page and wanted me to allow ads on their site.

So.... I clicked the back button and went to the next search result. Seriously? That's ok Forbes. You didn't gain anything. I'll just go read it on another website. The internet is a pretty big place. I have a lot of other choices... Bye Felicia!

I started moving my pb pictures to my phone - one at a time seemed to be the only way.

I was checking my photo gallery to make sure each pic was really saved to my phone, and I noticed an album in my phone gallery I hadn't created, 'Your photo bucket'. Sure enough, all my pb pictures were magically saved to my phone. This is where technology eludes me. I know this morning I was tapping around pb trying to figure out if I could move them all at once. I know I hit the 'download bucket', but nothing happened. No choices to select like where to share or copy the codes. So I didn't realize anything had happened. Silly me.

Are my pictures now safe on my phone picture gallery?

I noticed about 3 pictures on pb that I had found from Pinterest did not save to my phone. Later I found it was easier to take screen shots of Pinterest images and then share, so I guess those slipped by the hostage guards.

I bet the PhotoHostage servers were screaming today as people were removing their content. They've really trashed their brand (such as it was) with this stooopid move ... textbook business school case-study of how NOT to run a business....
