Any pictures posted by embedded <img> links to photobucket will be blocked, unless you have a PAID photobucket account.

I just got the email from photobucket saying all my photos would no longer be shown that way unless I pay their ransom. Went to my old postings, sure enough....blocked. Nothing there but their ransom note.

Same Here!

I was just about to post about it and decided to search first.

Got the email.

Did you go see how much they want before you get 3rd party hosting??

399.99. A. Year.

Um, No???

So, all my pictures are gone (from my posts). Anyone know if I can use my amazon prime photos uploads for this? I'm too lazy to search right now.

My email came at 12:29am (June 30).

I noticed that one of my posts (about the pvc tray holder I "invented") is on pinterest. (I'm famous?) So I thought maybe that's how they....found me. Sneaky.

But since they found chief's pictures too...maybe just coincidence.

Or maybe we're both famous!

$399 is crazy, the only reason they would do that is to drive the 3rd party linkers away. But we have no idea how many petabytes of storage they have that is ONLY used for 3rd party images.
I host about half a dozen forums and started seeing the same blocked images / upgrade image today.
I understand why they are doing it, because if you do NOTHING but post 3rd party images they have zero chance to make any revenue from you to pay for the space.

Adding insult to injury the Photo Gallery software that I use, Photopost, has gone under as well. It seems that the FBs of he world are having an impact...

And amazon apparently also blocks 3rd party links

I got my photobucket nastygram 10 minutes ago. Someone posted about it yesterday, and I didn't understand it. Now I do!

This is even rougher for people like me who don't understand this technology and how to work around it.

My photo galleries on my computer and cell phone are safe, right? Will I be able to fix my pictures on my pool build? How would I ever be able to do it on all my posts on other people's threads - examples of explanations? I can see now I've posted way too many pictures.

Info for tech-challenged people like me. Still doesn't help with our locked pictures on TFP posts via photobucket.

For users who are affected by this, it is important to note that the images are not gone. They are still hosted on Photobucket, and you can actually load them right then and there by right-clicking on them and selecting "open image in new tab" or "open link in new tab" depending on the web browser that you are using. This opens the Photobucket website where the original image is displayed.

More info (not completely clear to me, but I'm working on it):

You can download your entire library of images by selecting Library on Photobucket, and then the download album link under actions.

I've been working this morning using a modification that's resulting in mixed results. I've been able to update some threads restoring the photos; but I permintally "broke" other links. Because of the mixed results I've stopped in hope they reverse they're desision. I've gotta say, jerk move on PhotoBuckets end!! A warning to its users would have been a better route IMHO. They've went 10years with this business plan, what's another week or two in order to keep customers??

That said, for TFP Supporters PLEASE use the new Photo Gallery or attachment space. Your photos on PhotoBucket are still on their site. It will not harm any of your photos on your computer or phone. Additionally I would HIGHLY suggest downloading your photos from their website to your computer.

Im greatly biting my tongue right now hoping they balk to social media. They're taking a major bashing right now. It's kinda funny watching the language people come up with.

I'm really watching the talk online about it. So, we're in a holding pattern now, for our broken links on TFP, hoping PhotoPail will back down? Golly, I hope they do! So much helpful information via photos lost.

Why didn't they grandfather it? I know, I know - money. SMH at what's going on these days.

I went to imgur last night and signed up. I fixed the pics in my "pvc tray holder" thread since there were only 7 or 8.

I'm glad it wasn't a huge build thread! What a pain.

Took me a few minutes to figure out imgurs sizing options but in the end I found it to be pretty user friendly.

I have a pretty good understanding of html so it was mainly just a cut and paste and preview process.

I can imagine it's going to cause quite a bit of confusion across a whole lot of forums!

I'll have to dig in little by little and see what other pictures I've posted. I know I have another thread from when I switched from intex to hayward fittings. That one has a bunch of pics too. Blech.

At the beginning of the year, PhotoBucket "lost" all of my data. I lost every picture I ever uploaded to them (thankfully nothing personal, I only used it for pool pictures). They gave me some bogus and ridiculous excuse about a "1 in a billion chance error" and then threw me a free premium account upgrade for 1 year. What, you have no catastrophic backup storage in place for data mirroring?? I told them "No thanks!" and had them remove my account permanently.

Now I use TFP to store sensitive pictures. TFP is working (slowly) on a Photo Gallery feature but it is only for subscribers/supporters. I will never use or recommend PhotoBucket ever again.

I half-wonder if this isn't a ploy by Photobucket to create chaos on lots of web forums in an attempt to make them pay-up for users that post links. Cause enough damage to enough forums and forum members will get ticked off and start pressuring admins to play ball.

Wouldn't be the first time the "general population" gets used as a pawn in a larger struggle.
