Earlier today my son tried to fire up the spa from his phone and our easy touch was non responsive. I gave it a try on my phone via remote and local connections, I am able to get to the main screen, but there is no response when I select pool, spa, lights, etc.

The only thing that has changed on this end is we had new windows installed. The installers moved the outdoor antenna, it is receiving power. The green power light on the indoor antenna is flashing, I can’t remember if this is what it always does.

Where should I start with troubleshooting?

After a bit more research, it seems as though the transmitters/anntennas are not communicating. The RX and TX lights are not active.

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping someone might be able to offer some guidance. I’ve scoured the forum and found several similar cases but still need some advice.

Problem:
The pump displays "Pump Not Active," which, according to other posts, seems normal.

What I've Tried:
  • Tested continuity on the red, yellow, green, and black wires—all good.
  • Called Pentair Support. They had me power off the indoor unit and attempted to connect to the Protocol Adapter, but they couldn't connect. They suggested calling a pool repair company.
  • Before doing that, I ordered a new Wireless Connection Link and hooked everything up, but I still couldn’t connect.
Question:
Is there something I might be missing or additional steps I should take after installing the new Wireless Connection Link? Any advice or potential solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

What indoor unit do you have?

Are you trying to connect to your EasyTouch system using your phone through the ScreenLogic app?

Which Wireless Connection Link did you get? The 900MHZ Wireless Connection?

Show us pictures of your EasyTouch board.

Please see attached for images of the board. I also included an image of the current indoor/outdoor unit. I also have a the Protocol Adapter.

Yes, I am trying to connect to the Easy Touch system using my phone, through the ScreenLogic App.

New unit is the Pentair 520639, the High Power Connection Kit.

Have you tried just resetting your indoor ScreenLogic unit? If you are able to get to the main screen via the app, the two are talking, but they may be out of sync. I would start by simply unplugging the indoor transmitter, waiting a bit and then plugging it back in.

You mentioned the Rx/Tx lights not blinking, so the two don’t seem to be properly communicating.

Have you rebooted it? Odd that Pentair didn’t recommend that, just the “indoor unit”. I’d reboot the entire panel.

F,

It was working, and then your moved the outside Antenna, and now it is now working..

What does that tell you??

I would suggest, that even if just for a test, you try to move the two antennas closer to each other.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I reset the panel, no change.

@Jimrahbe I hear you on the antenna. I'm struggling to come up with a viable solution on moving the indoor unit. When I said the moved the antenna, it was more like they disturbed it, as it was moved ~3 inches.

F,

Could be the film inside the new windows is harder for the RF to penetrate..

As a test, run a new wire to the outside antenna and then bring it inside close to the inside antenna.. If it works, then you will know for sure it is just a range or position issue and that both antennas are working.

Also, move the inside antenna away from and Wi-Fi router..

Thanks,

Jim R.

I'm not sure why I didn't think to open the window and pull the antenna inside. I also moved the indoor unit. I was excited to try this, but it didn't work.

On the outdoor antenna, the power light stays green for 5 seconds, then turns off for five seconds. The indoor antenna rapidly flashes green.

F,

Too bad... :(

Let's make sure the com port in the EasyTouch is still working..

If you have an IntelliFlo pump with a display, with the system in AUTO, your pump's display should show "Display not Active"..

Since you have a SWCG, use the EasyTouch to change the SWCG's output and confirm that the cell changes to what you set in the EasyTouch.. As an example, if the cell is now at say 40%, using the EasyTouch set the output to 80% and see if the lights change.. It may take a few minutes to change.

The whole point being to confirm that the RS-845 com port is working.

Most of my posts are based on my personal experience with the problem... Unfortunately for you, my ScreenLogic has never failed to work... :)

Thanks,

Jim R.

I appreciate all of the help so far!

Pump shows Display not Active. I adjusted the SWCG's output, and the cell reflected the change.

F,

That is good.. One of the two antennas could still be bad, but at least they are not loading down the RS-485 com port.

Just because they screwed with the outside antenna, I'd want to confirm that all 4 wires between the EasyTouch and the outside antenna have good solid connections.

No direct experience with this, but we have seen where just moving the location of the inside antenna, away from an interference source, has allowed the antennas to talk with each other..

Let's see if Tom has any inputs on the lights on the wireless cards.. Calling @ogdento

Thanks,

Jim R.

I was leaning towards the antennas being bad, I'm now not convinced since replacing with the Pentair 520639, the High Power Connection Kit didn't impact my connection issues.

Connections are good, I've checked a few times.

call me crazy, but on your photo showing the back of the outdoor board, it looks like there's only a red, green and yellow on the comm port... I don't see a black?? now, I know this has nothing to do with the antenna being disturbed, but I found it odd - maybe it's just the picture.

yes to what Jim said! make sure the number on the indoor unit matches the number on the outdoor... I don't know how the LEDs behave on this new high power set (I have the old one), but it probably mentions it in the manual

if there's any way you can temporarily hard-wire the screenlogic to your outdoor panel - you need to plug it into ethernet AND the outdoor panel, so you might need some long cables - that will tell us if the screenlogic is ok

Bad pic, there is a black wire. Both antennas match. I reinstalled the old unit. Hoping to send the new one back if I can get the old one to work. The flashing LED's I described are on the old unit.

How do I go about wiring the indoor unit to the outdoor panel? Do I take off the outdoor antenna?
