Ph reading gone crazy

Welcome! Hummm... odd. Can you clarify:
- Which test kit you are using and how exactly are you performing the pH test?
- Enter the test kit along with all of your pool and equipment details into your signature as well.
- How do you chlorinate?
- Any new or unusual chemicals been added recently?

We'll get you some answers.

The test kit is a Taylor liquid reagent kit. I determined that the ph is extremely low. The color was going from a 7.0 to above an 8.0 in under 10 seconds. The pool is an indoor 17,000 gallon pool. We use sodium Hypochlorite to chlorinate and Co2 to lower the ph. We do Muriatic acid drops to deal with high Alk.

I suspect that the chlorine is actually very high.

When the chlorine is very high, the liquid dpd can bleach out and read lower than actual.

High chlorine will combine with the phenol red to make chlorinated phenol red, which is the color that you are probably seeing.
