All of my chemistry is pretty much in the middle of acceptable testing ranges but my pH stays around 8.0. I only test at least a day after chlorine additions as I understand that when adding chlorine it tends to lift the pH up for a day. When I add muriatic acid to bring it to 7.6, it will raise back to 8.0 in 2-3 days. There has not been any swimming so far this season. Thoughts?

P,

There is no reason to try and keep your pH at 7.6... Let it drift up to 7.8 and only reduce it when it gets up to 8 ppm..

Your TA is 85... Reducing your TA to 50 or 60 will help stabilize your pH.. But... nothing will stop it from increasing over time.

Thanks,

Jim R.

How do you measure a TA of 85? It is 80 or 90.

You cannot measure a CYA of 35. If the dot disappears between 40 and 30 we roundup and call it 40.

Lower TA puts the TA more in equilibrium with the pH.
