Perimeter Overflow in Carlsbad CA.

Man that is some BLING for sure! I LOVE it!

I think that grout will be the purrfect grout for that! It will not break up the flow of that pretty tile as much as using a light color would.

Looks like they are making great progress.

TV-not sure what to tell you with it not having a solid roof............some kind of weather proof cabinet but that will be $$.....how about a TV you can carry in and out as wanted? That would be a pain after a while. OH I know!!! A projector and the screen could roll up and down! Of course you would still have bring in out but it would be smaller!

What an amazing pool! I'd love to see a close-up pic of those lightwaves tile in the sunlight, if you happen to have one. :) I'm trying to find a substitute for Arctic Lagoon that I fell in love with on here but is discontinued. Yours seems to have a similar look. How is your artificial turf holding up?

We went through 20 variations of glass tile and initially the lightwaves wasn't even being considered. As we looked at it during different times of the day it always seemed to stand out. With direct sun its blue. With a little shade or as the sun moves it changes. Probably more impressive at night with LED lights shining on it. Here are pics with it half in shade and half in sun20180808_085221.jpg20180808_085204.jpg20180808_085144.jpg

Upper pool 17 inches deep. 16'x8'. We have 2 bubblers and led lights in it. Using 1 intelliflo VSF for waterfall. The nice part about this mini pool is it warms up quickly here and helps heat the pool.

Daytime view with pump at 3450 RPMs.
Grotto is about 18 inches deep with curved over hang. Great place for kids and dog to hang out.

We ran a perimeter edge around entire front of pool. Putting turf right up to the pool glue down. Not much info out there for this type of finish so we had to get creative to make it work. Water level and edge are even. We went with a 2 inch channel to try holding in splash and waves from kids. Surprising it works with minimal splash out. We used an aluminum tile border to create the edge for the grass and give us another 3/8 inch to hold back water. Custom ordered it for about $150. This was significantly cheaper than the $45k edge we were quoted by a company that makes a stainless steel edge for this application.

I have been considering taking some of my grass out for astroturf instead. I am so tired of cutting inside the pool area and trying to keep it out of the pool. Awesome look to your pool!

I have it and really like it. Looks great, and little maintenance. Things to consider though is that it gets MUCH hotter than regular grass. Also I have heard a lot of complaints of people with dogs having a hard time keeping it clean and odor free.

Yes it definitely is hotter. Make sure you place enough steppers in proper places, we added umbrella sleeves in a few places that we plan on sitting to provide shade. Once kids are in pool and running around it doesn't matter with them being wet.
Dogs and odor: This was our biggest concern. During construction we needed to backfill so we went about 6 inches with class 2 road base. A must for drainage. We have 60 plus yards that we brought in. We used AGL Gold. This was the best draining turf I could find. Careful with the plastic backed turf with pre drilled holes. The AGL drains through the entire backing. Most importantly we taught our dog in the 1st week to think of grass as indoor carpet. We created a dog run for her that is accessible as well as a few other spots. The first week she sniffed and went a few times we were quick to correct and direct to her potty areas. Problem solved. She doesn't want to lay and roll in her pee either. Make sure the whole family helps with.

The Pro's: Not slippery when kids and dogs are running around the pool. Very clean, no dragging mud or grass into the pool or house. Nice to lay on when not hot or use a towel. No brown spots from dog urine. Very clean look.

I only really want it for 2 small areas around my pool that are near impossible to mow that no-one ever goes on anyway. Do you have to spray weed killer on the area regularly? I am not entirely sure I can use it on those areas anyway since they are sloped and I may need the live grass for adequate ground retention.

The way ours was installed is that there was a weed barrier, then like 2 or 3 inches of crushed rock base material, then an inch of decomposed granite on that. On a proper installation you should not see weeds coming through, and it should work on a slope. That being said, you get a whole lot more rain than we do, so maybe they install it in a way that gives more drainage. But I'm sure a professional installer with a good reputation can make it work very well.
