I need help programming my Pentair Superflow VS pump. I figured out what buttons to push, I just don't know what the settings should be. My pool is approx. 22,000 gallons. I do not use an automatic pool cleaner. I live in Riverside CA, where the weather during summer is above 100 degrees. Peak electric hours are 2pm-7pm, Mid-peak hours, 6am-2pm and 7pm-11pm, off peak hours 11pm-6am. I appreciate any help

Ok. I created a signature which includes the information about my pool. Approx 16x32 ft pool / 22,000 gallons, plaster, Pentair VS pump 342001, with Hayward DE filter, no heater or automatic pool cleaner. I need guidance on programming the settings on the pump- speed/duration/time of day, etc.

You can setup your pool pump to run on low speed for when you want to filter. You should run at a speed sufficient to skim, when you want to skim for as long as necessary to skim what you want. Test speeds starting at 1000 and go up in 100 increments until you get good skimming action, and run there for as long as you want to get skim results you want.

Bee,

I suspect that you are looking for advice on how many turnovers your water needs, or advice on how fast to run the pump based on air temp, etc..

We just don't believe in any of those myths...

You should run your pump for a reason..

The main reason to run your pump is to generate chlorine.. if you had a Saltwater Chlorine Generator, of if you were using chlorine tablets, but since you are using Liquid Chlorine you only need an hour or so to mix the chlorine with the pool water.

The next reason to run the pump is to adequately skim the surface of your pool. This really depends on you. Some people don't want to see things floating in their pools and others don't really care. I run my pump 24/7, as I like to make a little chlorine all the time and I like to skim all the time. I also think my pool looks better when there is a little motion to the water.. But, that is me.. You will have to decide what works best for you.

Speed wise... the slower you run the pump, the less it costs.. I would not run less than 1,000 RPM as there is little to gain.. How fast you need the pump to run has a lot to do with how your pool is plumbed and what equipment you have. Since you don't have a heater, then I suspect that 1200 RPM would work, but again, you will just have to experiment and see what works best for you.

Don't pay any attention to those that say you have to 'turnover' your pool water x times a day.. It is just not true..

I would suggest that you run the pump as long as possible and as slow as possible to get the job done.. and at the same time avoid running the pump when your electrical rates are at the max.

Thanks,

Jim R.
