Hi All,

I have a Pentair Quad 60 here in France.
Not to confuse you all but in fact it's a Quad 48 ;) and has 3 filters (one port blocked)

It has a flow rate of 88GPM and wouldd like to increase this to 124GPM ( the standard DE 60 model)

The manifold assembly at the bottom is missing a tube/pipe in the manifold to add the 4th filter.
When looking online for parts I can only find the later model manifold without the pipes.

I think the changeover date was 2009 ish?

The main question I have: can I install a manifold without the tubes in my older Quad setup?
I found a picture online to clarify the internal pipes.

Thank you/ Merci

Greetings from France

Why are you concerned with a higher flow rate. You are installing a VS pump. It will never run at the high flow rate.

Filter flow maximum rates and system maximum flow rates are very different. In theory, a 60 sq. ft. DE filter can handle 120 gpm through the grids/cartridges, but you are still limited by the rest of the internal plumbing and any valves plus the rest of the pool plumbing.
Just remove any plug, get a piece of 1" PVC, and stick it into the missing one, that's all Pentair did. They were an added change to make sure that the tanks had to fill, cover the cartridges, and coat the grids (artificial head) when the filter is in use. Your plumbing appears to be 2" (50mm). You should never try to push more that 88gpm through that anyway.
With a VSP, higher flow rates really don't matter because less is more.

Yes you are correct, reason why I want to add the 4th filter is for the extra filter surface, pool is left unattended for months (also in summer)
Running at lower rpm will increase the cleaning interval.

The newer Quads don't have those pipes? can I just unplug it and drop a filter on top of it?

If you use a VSP, it is likely the cartridges, at lower RPM, will not completely coat with DE. That's why those pipes were added, to force water to fill the tank to the top of the cartridges. You don't want to run unfiltered water through the cartridges when they are not completely coated.

I thought the pipes were older models only? (from what I found in the parts list) the current models don't have them.

When adding DE I run the pump at 2.5-3k for and hour to coat the filter then slow the flow/speed down (currently single speed pump)
will be adding the VSF pump in two weeks when I am there combined with new filters (old ones are 7 years old)

If it works, do it. You're missing the air-relief tube screen (unless it was removed for the picture), which will allow a lot of dirt and DE to return to the pool. Part 190906Z

So after weeks emailing with Pentair I got some answers.

My base is a Quad 60 but had been downsized to a 48 version (3 filters) they told me due to translation errors the flow rates and DE amount was not correct.
So the sticker on my filter reads 88GPM and 7.7Lbs of DE powder.
They corrected the mistake in 2014 (my filter is from 2008) to 67GPM and 40.8Lbs DE.

Was running the single speed pump at 88GPM while my 3 filter setup has a max flowrate of 67 :ROFLMAO:

Going to test less DE and flowrate (new Intelliflo on the way) and see how that turns out

Got feedback today from Pentair, Internal pipes or not makes no difference, they stopped the internal PVC pipe setup in 2011. By removing the pipes they could reach higher flow rates.

FYI
