Pentair Pump Mystery

I came home this past Monday and my pump (NOT variable speed) was not running (on). It runs my water feature and in floor cleaning system. I was unable to immediately turn it on, but later that day I was able to do so. It made a terrible noise for about 30 seconds before shutting off. I noticed it was leaking water from the bottom of the pump. I called my pool guy to come look at it. He came out Wednesday and before he got here the pump miraculously started running again and was not leaking. He was baffled and honestly was not sure of the exact issue but gave me some possibilities. The really baffling part, for him and me, was that the leak was gone. Anyone else ever had this happen and/or have suggestions? It has run fine since Wednesday. Thanks everyone.

Depending on the pump, and whether it has an impeller screw or not, the impeller may have become un-threaded and bound up the motor, over heating it and it shutting off. It could have moved just enough to thread itself back on the next time the motor started, tightened against the seal and, nd is now functioning.
Happened on my pool twice, many years ago on a pump with no impeller screw. First time no issue, second it destroyed the impeller and diffuser. That's when I got my VSP.

Probably a seal leak and maybe a bad capacitor.

I would take it apart and feel the motor rotation to see if the bearings feel ok.

Check all parts for damage.

If the bearings are ok, replace the seal and capacitor.
