So I was backwashing to remove some of the Ida rain, going to rinse the filter the handle broke off, I thought I miraculosuly found a replacement however once I got it opened and went to replace it the bottom portion was too large and was advised would need to special order

Since I have it open can I just turn the lower portion 180 degrees to the filter position and reattach the top? Or is there more guts down below that get moved.

You can turn the key to align correctly with filter. But, based on where the handle broke, it may leak out of the handle shaft area. Only way to know is to try it. Get a replacement key and install it as soon as you can.

While waiting for the replacement, add liquid chlorine to keep FC in the proper range. Used your pool brush to mix it in.
