Pentair intellifo VS NO power

Howdy Forum,

Recently has a bunch of bad weather in Houston area, and had to turn off breakers at pool panel for a boat lift motor that shares power with pool equipment. In the process of turning the power back on, to my luck, now the pump and salt cell do not have power. Pentair control panel has power, but Intellifo pump LCD screen is blank. All wire connections to pump look fine. I reset all breakers multiple times, including the main panel in the garage. I’m quite low level knowledge when it comes to pool equipment and electrical stuff, so I’m confused if perhaps the pump breaker is shot. It’s not registering any power, but I’m not quite sure where to place the probes of the multi-meter.
Any guidance on diagnosing would be greatly appreciated!

One of the two breakers feeding the pump/filter relay are bad.

You should never use two individual breakers in place of a 240 volt breaker..

The reason you get zero volts is that one of the 240 volt phases, either L1 or L2, is missing.

Appreciate your response Jim. I’m not the original home owner, so not sure why the pool builder installed this way. Are these breakers something that can be replaced with new one from Home Depot or Lowe’s, or are they custom for pentair systems?

Yes and no.. :mrgreen:

Non-GFCI breakers from Home Depot will work.. But,

In theory, the pump should be powered by a GFCI breaker. The downside to this is that IntelliFlo pumps tend to randomly and intermittently pop the store bought GFCI breakers... Sometimes they work fine, and sometimes they do not. Pentair sells a special 240 volt breaker just for this reason..

My cheap pool builder installed one when my pool was built, so it kind of proves the point.. If there were not issues, he would have used a cheap GFCI breaker. :mrgreen:
