Pentair Intelliflow 3

I have this pentair intelliflow now for 6 months. I am disappinted. Their documentation and support leaves a lot to desire. I dont like the thermal mode. I bought it thinking if thermal mode is set for 45Fand their own app say the temperature is 34f, i would expect the unit to come on. Not the case.

Welcome to the forum. Is this pump standalone and controlled via the Pentair app or is it tied to an automation system?

My understanding is the thermal mode is just to keep the electronics warm in freezing weather, it is not to be used as freeze protection for the pump or your pool.

We need more info.. Is this a standalone pump or is it connected to an automation system?

Does your pump get constant AC power or are you trying to control the pump with an external timer??

One of the great things about large VS pumps is that you can run them 24/7, at a low RPM, for about $10 bucks a month... Running 24/7 allows you to never worry about freeze control and also provides constant skimming.

The IntelliFlo3 is one of the best pumps out there.. So, I doubt the issue is with the pump itself..

Per the operating manual - Thermal mode is not Freeze Protection for the entire filtration system

"The pump is operating in Thermal mode. Thermal Mode is controlled by the drive's internal
temperature, not water temperature.
This is intended to keep motor components from freezing, but should not be solely
relied on for full filtration system freeze protection."

Do you have a separate temperature sensor for either water or air temperatures?

+1 to all the above.

Google says you may have dipped into the 30s at night recently but have been hovering between 50 and 60 during the day. The water temp is likely 45 (ish) and there are no concerns on a freezing night. The water takes a long time to cool and by the time it's noticeable it even budged, it's warm again.

If the air sensor sees 30s it will run the thermal protection which as said above is for the electronics only.

Hopefully its that easy and all is well. Fill us in if there's more to the saga. Many have panicked when it was 'freezing' with no chance the water was going to freeze.
