Hello!

In April I upgraded my SWG to the Aqua-rite 940 extended cell system.

In June my Pentair pump shorted out. Dead as a door nail. Power to the pump was fine. Warranty service was called and they replaced the Hard Drive. They also noted my pump was not wired correctly to power and was causing my SWG not to work because the SWG was powered on 24/7. So when the pump finished it's schedule, the SWG would read my salt as too low and I would have to do a reset to get it to generate again the next day.

Called pool company to install the pump outside of the timer box and leave SWG on the timer. YAY!!! my SWG works now!

July 1st, my pump died for the 2nd time. Same issue. Power was good to the box but would not power up. My pool repair company determined my SWG was causing a power surge when the timer box came on. Warranty company refused to come out till the SWG was disconnected. Pool company disconnected the SWG and warranty repaired my pump.

I can't for the life of me wrap my head around the SWG causing a spike to the pump specifically. I feel like I was fed some info that may not be true. I have 2 pool friends who tell me that's a crock. I am so frustrated I am wondering if I need to call an electrician rather than a pool person out to help me figure this out. My pool has been running for about a week and a half with no SWG and so far it's been good.

Any thoughts on the Aquarite 940 causing power spikes/issues??? Maybe Hayward SWG not playing well with Pentair Pump????
Thanks!

c,

Welcome to TFP.. a great place to find the answers to all of your "Is my pool company just full of it?" Questions...

A crock would be way too small for what your pool company is trying to feed you... :p

Their out is that the IntelliFlo manual says that nothing other than the pump should be connected to the same circuit breaker as the pump.

Not sure how your system is wired, but in theory, your power should come from the house to a Circuit Breaker panel at the equipment pad. Inside the circuit breaker panel you would have one 20 AMP GFCI breaker feeding the pump and another breaker feeding your SWCG through a timer.

Please post a pic of your equipment pad showing your breaker panel (if you have one) and your timer...

I really doubt the problem is with the SWCG causing a spike, but it does give them an out... Sigh!!!

I hope you are adding Liquid Chlorine to your pool to keep the FC up while the SWCG is off-line.

Thanks,

Jim R.

UNLESS you have an SWG. Quoting from the IntelliFlo manual (bolding their):

Note: If AC power is supplied by a GFCI circuit breaker, the pump should be wired on its own independent circuit unless the pump is operated in tandem with a Pentair salt chlorine generator.
