Pentair Intellicenter Mobile App Problems. Please help!

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this community and this is my first post.

I have a new pool that was completed and opened last year. We have a Pentair control system, controlling our pumps, filters, heater, lighting, etc. The Pentair system has two control interfaces, one that is at the control board adjacent to the pool equipment, and a hard-wired remote unit that is located in our mechanical room in our basement. Both of those two interfaces work properly and control the pool well.

Our pool builder set us up with the Pentair Intellicenter Mobile App on our phones when the pool was opened last season. The app only works about 5% of the time! Most of the time it is unable to connect to the system and the connection "times out" after trying to connect for about 20 seconds. We are unable to connect both to the Local System when we are on the same local network in our home, as well as the Remote System whether we are home or away from home on a completely different IP address.

What's strange is that the connection does work sometimes. It's rare and very infrequent, but it does sometimes work! The Remote System connection works the most, even connecting to it while home on the same local network. It's a very strange problem that our pool builder (Haggerty Pools) and the local Pentair Rep (John) can't figure out! The mobile app didn't work last season, and our pool has been open for a month already this season, and we are having the same problems.

This is our configuration:

- Pentair Main Control Board is connected with the wireless RF extender from the board to the network router/switch in our house (we initially tried hardwiring the main control board with a Cat 5 cable, and that didn’t work either)
- Using Version 2.13.10 of the Pentair Intellicenter2 mobile app
- Typical home network with cable modem as the router, fed to TP-Link Deco wireless routers. Deco wireless routers are connected via Cat 5 to a Cisco 1Gbps network switch. All other network connections in the house work fine!

I suspect that there is a IP address conflict that is happening somewhere. I’m only somewhat network savvy, so I don’t know for sure, but the fact that the system works some of the time tells me that it can connect, but something in the configuration is changing, causing it to lose the connection.

Do I need to establish a static IP address for the Pentair system? Right now I believe it’s a dynamic IP address that is given from my router.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated! We would love to have the convenience of the Pentair mobile app. Haggerty Pools told me today that we are their ONLY customer that has this problem!

Thanks!

Welcome to TFP.

What model is the "wireless RF extender"?

The Deco is a mesh WiFi router. We have seen many pool systems do not work well with mesh routers. They get confused with the different signals the mesh network is broadcasting.

I will bet that if you hookup a basic 2.4ghz Linksys router for the IntelliCenter it will work well.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the warm welcome and the fast responses. I appreciate it and I’m resolved to getting this fixed. Sound like I came to the right place!

The IntelliCenter is hooked up to a standard Wi-Fi system by TP-Link. It has mesh capabilities but I have all access points hard wired with Ethernet connections back to my Cisco switch. I did read a previous post about problems the IntelliCenter has with mesh networks, the Google Wi-Fi mesh configuration in particular.

The Pentair Wi-Fi system I have is in the photo below. I’m not sure what the model number is. The antenna outside on the main IntelliCenter panel is connected to the RJ-45 Ethernet port inside the panel. The receiving Wi-Fi unit is in my network rack with a direct Ethernet connection to the Cisco switch. The lights on the Cisco switch are blinking, showing connectivity.

Since I’m able to connect sometimes, albeit very rarely, I believe I’m having some sort of an IP address conflict issue. I have DHCP setup on my router and perhaps the IntelliCenter needs a static IP address? Does anyone know how to configure this?

IntelliCenter is perfectly happy running with DHCP.

But if you have an IP address outside of your DHCP range and within your subnet mask you can set it in the IntelliCenter under Network Settings.

I will tell you that I have found the IntelliCenter finicky when making network changes. You have to power cycle the IntelliCenter after every change. And sometimes it does not restart correctly.

Hi Everyone,

I am resurrecting this old post from last spring with a hope that someone here can help me.

I gave up on trying to get my Pentair system to connect to the Internet and to be able to use the Intellicenter app to control my pool. I went the entire Northeast pool season without this remote app capability and it was a major inconvenience! My pool builder and maintenance company gave up on trying to resolve the problem, as did the Northeast Pentair Rep. Nobody could figure out what was going on!

To bring everyone up to speed....I had a Pentair proprietary wireless connection from the main panel connected to my network switch. That connection basically stopped working and I ran a new Ethernet cable between the control panel, directly to my network switch. The continuity of the Ethernet connection is fine and I tested it by plugging it into another network device to confirm that the Ethernet signal is okay.

When I plug my Ethernet cable into the back of the Pentair control panel, the network traffic lights on the circuit board illuminate. It should a flickering green light, indicating there's a connection. When I try using DHCP, I do not get a connection to the Internet. I tried rebooting the panel multiple times, and despite repeated attempts, I do not get a connection to the Internet using the DHCP setting on the Pentair. When I turn off DHCP, I enter a specific IP address that I reserved on my router. It's within the IP range on my network. I specifically assigned the IP address for the Pentair, and I still cannot connect the panel to the Internet.

What could I possibly be doing wrong? This is incredibly frustrating! I just want to get this Pentair panel connected to the Internet so it can be controlled through my phone!

Does anyone have any recommendations? Is there a Pentair specialist it the NY/CT area (Greenwich, CT) that I can hire to come and troubleshoot this? Haggerty Pools is completely useless and they have given up.

Please help!

-Tom

Did you make a warranty claim with Pentsir and try a new board?
