I have pentair fns60 and have replaced the brass plated nuts with ss to eliminate the galvanic reaction with ss tie rod. After 15 months nuts had severely deteriorated and have asked pentair the consequences of doing this but have not heard anything from them. Their sacrificial nature must be designed to save some more expensive part. But which?

The only way that happens is if the chemistry is really bad.
Either the pH is below 4 or you have a tab feeder that is backing up into the filter.
The nuts are brass with a chrome plating (chrome plated brass).
There's no purpose other than the nuts are cheaper than good stainless steel.
