Pentair filter drain plug damaged

I had the same issue as posted on this

I solved it by installing the plug from the inside part of the filter, just hand tighened it. no glue. I guess pressure keeps it down works fine so far no leaking. thought I'd pass along.

You might consider shopping around for a bulkhead tank fitting. These types of fittings are used in various tank designs when it's difficult or impossible to weld or cut threads into the tank body. An example of what I'm talking about can be found here -

The o-ring on the bulkhead fitting acts as the pressure seal. I haven't look at the bottom of my tank in a while but I suspect there is limited space to maneuver down there. There may not be a bulkhead fitting capable of sealing the hole if there isn't enough room. Might work a little better than using a winterizing plug and the bulkhead fitting is usually threaded so that you can attach either another pipe or a properly threaded plug to seal the hole.

Shop vac sounds great. Another idea: I use my "Spa Wand" hand pump, originally meant to get junk off the bottom of the spill-over spa where the robot can't reach. The plug on my filter is fine, but dancing the limbo is necessary to get hands on it. :)
