Draining pool using main drain & pump?

Would it be acceptable or recommended to plug off my skimmers and or install ball valves where the skimmers come into the pump house? My thinking is if I shut off the auto top off, plug both skimmers, install a ball valve to bypass the filter or even just let it run through the filter then discharge out the waste port on the multi port valve ?

I have a sump pump that I’ve used in the past but it will probably be a lot faster using the pool pump??

You can do it, we just don't recommend it. A bit of inattention, the pump runs dry...seen it a number of times.

If you can ensure you are not pulling from skimmers and you do not avert your attention, it will work.

That’s my only concern. Have to keep eye on it or pump runs dry
