I have a Pentair easy touch and the 3amp “relay” breaker keeps tripping. Also on the panel the button battery has come off of the PCB.
could that be causing the issue? Would appreciate any help.

Jim,

Does it trip the relay breaker when all the relay coil connections are disconnected from the main card?

This seems to ring a bell, but I can't remember why..

Let's see if Tom has any inputs.. Calling @ogdento

Thanks,

Jim R.

When I unplug the transformer bundle from the PCB board the CB doesn’t trip.
Which is the orange WIRE, 18 printed on the PCB. I’ve checked to see if wired through GFI it isn’t. didn’t know if the button battery that was attached to the PCB had anything to do with it.

Thanks for the help
Jimmy

Jim,

When you take the transformer connector off the main card, the voltage has no place to go, so it makes sense that the breaker will no longer pop.

I assume that with all the other connectors removed, but the transformer connector still connected, the breaker still pops. I'm pretty sure this is an indication that you have lost one of the voltage rectifiers or regulators on the main card.. You can usually see the top of the chip burned.

I asked Tom to chime in as he is an expert in this area.

I think the battery is just to keep the time clock running when the power goes out. I doubt it is causing any issues.

At this point you can buy a new card or see if you can get the one you have repaired. @ogdento

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hey Jimmy,
First, Jim's right - the coin cell is only for keeping the time (powers the onboard real-time-clock)

As for your power issue, you'll want to check these things:
1. take a photo and then pull everything off of the aux circuits... leave the 6-position power connector from the transformer... see if it still pops the breaker:
a. if the breaker still pops, it's likely the chip labeled BR1 (bridge rectifier that drives the relays) OR one of the two socketed relay driver chips. you can pull the socketed chips out and try again (see here: Help! My aux circuits (or valves) stopped working!!)
b. if it doesn't (less likely), it could be a blown relay... plug the relays in one at a time until it does pop the breaker
