Hello everyone, I’m a newbie to pools and still a lot to learn but after yesterdays storm out of all the storms we have had here in Texas I went outside to see if the pump was still on and it wasn’t, my Pentair control board does not light up and I’ve checked and reset the breaker and nothing. I decided to open up the box and tested the power coming into the box and getting power but I don’t where else to check on the transformer? Could the thunder fry my board? I did lose 5 smart switches in my house along with 3 battery tenders that got fried I believe.

Can anybody help me and get my pool back up and running I have an old system and I’m wondering if I should just get a new one or try to fix this one. I rather not replace the whole thing honestly

01,

How did you test the input power to your EasyTouch???

I assume it is 240 volts AC.. If so, you must test between the two hot input lines (L1 and L2).. You can't test between L1 and ground and then L2 and ground.. You need to use a meter and not a probe with a light.

If you can show us some pics of your EasyTouch, so that we can see the breakers, wiring and relays... we can point you to the right spots to test..

Also, a pic of your equipment pad so we can see what equipment you have...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hi Jim.
Here’s some pictures but I will get more tomorrow

I used my multi meter to check the 240 volts when breaker was back on and have power running to it now but from there I just don’t know where to go. Also I had a lot of stuff get fried from the power surge we had last night and I’m not sure if the pump is also fried. The blower works when I hit the on from breaker but that’s about it

01,

Ok.. you have an old ComPool chassis that has been upgraded to an EasyTouch, which make it a little harder to troubleshoot... :(

But.. since your display does not light up, then you are not getting AC power to the circuit card, or circuit card is bad..

You say you tested the incoming 240 Volts AC with a meter, but did not answer by question about how you tested the 240 VAC.. The reason I asked, is that we have often seen where one side of the 240 is missing (either L1 or L2).. But... If you test between L1 and ground and then L2 to ground, you can get a false reading of 120 VAC on each line.. Because of this, I want to make sure you tested between L1 and L2 and got 240 VAC...

If your 240 is good, then you need to test the input voltage to the System Transformer, that you see in the upper right of your diagram.. I have no clue where this is located in your ComPool chassis... This transformer can be wired for 240 or 120, so trace the wires back to their source and determine the incoming voltage.. We have seen idiots wire the system transformer to a GFCI outlet.. If so, just reset the outlet and see what happens..

If you have good AC power on the Primary (input) side of the transformer, then you will need to test the three low voltage AC outputs going to the circuit card. Since these are AC voltages, you can not test to ground.. You need to test between the 2-wire pairs.. Like Blue and Blue/white. You should get the voltages listed on the diagram.. As long as the voltages are not zero or a million volts, then they are most likely good..

If you have all three input voltages, and the display is blank, then your card is toast... It could be something simple or complex, but no one I know repairs them..

Thanks,

Jim R.

I tested it just touching the red and black.
I did notice this morning there was a gfci outlet right under the control box and I checked that with the breaker flipped back on and that had no power. Could it be possible the board is ran through the gfci outlet? I did hit reset on that but there was no power to gfci outlet still. I will do what you suggested when I get back home today and probably post some more pictures
