I had a leaking drain plug. Then purchased 2 aftermarket plugs I used silicone on the gaskets and hand tightened but they unscrew under pressure. Would a pentair plug and gasket give me better results or can I use plumbers putty?

You should use Pool Lube - Further Reading on gaskets for pool equipment.
You should be able to just get a new oring for the original plug.
