Pentair Chlorinator Burn out after 3 years use

I have an IC40 Pentair Chlorinator that was manufactured on 6/01/2016 and shorted out. Three years is short for an expensive unit. I was able to pop the top to take a look at the inside and found that it was full of water and rust. How could water enter into a sealed unit.

Must not have been well sealed.
Although the typical lifespan of a cell tends to be 3-7+ years

I agree. Three years is too short of a lifespan. You may be able to make a Warranty argument but Pentair will probably say no. I just replaced my IC-40 and only spent $520 with free shipping. I thought it was a good price. Ebay seller was y-notpoolparts. Just copy and paste:

I bought from the same vendor. Great price and great service, but I'm not 100% sure if we qualify for the 2 year self install warranty.
