This will be our 4th pool season. Last year our booster pump (Pentair Boost-Rite LA-MS05) became noticeably louder with a "whining" sound. We noticed degraded performance or our Polaris 280 pressure cleaner, too. I replaced the ballast with a repair kit which helped but didn't fix it completely. When I asked about the booster pump last year the consensus was that repairing the pump was not a realistic option.

On to this year...We opened the pool the first week in May (we use a service to open and close the pool...my wife paid for the pool and this is non-negotiable). We had trouble getting the booster pump to start but eventually the pool guys got it working. I have it running on a schedule for 1 hour every morning and it was working (loud like last year and not great cleaner performance). I checked the RPMs for the cleaner and found it below the minimum target at 26 RPM. I checked the cleaner hose line filter and its clear there is no regulator reducing the flow at the quick connect fixture so I am assuming a pump problem. The pump seemed to be working OK at this diminished capacity for two weeks but then it just stopped running.

Is there any troubleshooting I can do that might get it running again or do I need to look at replacing it entirely?
From what I can tell the existing model is discontinued. What are my best options for replacement? Should I stick with Pentair and either go with the newer model or the pricier "Hydroboost"? Is the slightly less expensive Polaris PB4-60 a viable option, and will all of these just "drop in" and work with my Pentair EasyTouch/ScreenLogic system and the automation I have configured for the cleaner?

You can separate the motor from the volute and check the impeller. The impeller is what pushes the water through the pump.

PB4-60 is still the basic workhorse booster pump. It will work fine with your EasyTouch system.

All the booster pumps are the same.

Thank you for the feedback @ajw22 . I was hoping for some less intrusive form of troubleshooting...I'm not comfortable pulling the pump apart even if my wife would let me (and she absolutely would NOT !!!). I'll check with our installer in the unlikely case that its under warranty.
